    Engine Overheating problems - 2004 24V

Hi folks - hope you can help me out. I have a 2004 24V with the 6.0ltr 375HP closed cooled motor. Took the boat out for the first time this season on Saturday after getting it back from the dealer where they did a Spring tune up. Started fine but after idling for a little while temp gage shot up to between 230-240 deg. If I gave it some throttle up to about 17-20mph the temp then came down to normal operating temp (~190deg). I have been told that this motor will run a little hotter than normal motors and since I have had the boat (~5yrs) it has always run around 190deg.

The only thing I can think of is that the impeller is either not working or the wrong one for this motor. My guess is that if the impeller is not working right at idle no water is getting in but if you start moving through the water there is enough water force to get by it and cool the motor down.

The dealer did change out the impeller during it's recent service. I usually change out the impeller every two years. This is the first time I have had this issue.

Any other thoughts on what this might be. I plan on calling the dealer this week to discuss.

    Appreciate any and all responses.

I have a 2005 24V with the 6.0 PCM Motor as well. I have never had my engine temperature go that high before on it. Usually my temps are below 175, unless I am pushing the RPMs, then I'll se 180 or so. Sounds like possibly the wrong impeller, or the usual, debris in the cooling system causing issues. But I have never had my engine running that hot before.

I know this thread is a month old, did you get the issue resolved?

Had the exact same problem this weekend as well...Idle it temps would go up to about 230ish until the motor started to alarm (which brought the issue to my attention to start with. ) We turned it off for a let it cool down and eventually headed back to the doc.
On the way in - temps went down, but while idling...waiting for the trailer they went up again. Im 99% sure its the impeller - I just ordered one and will change it when it get here. But pretty sure its the impeller.
