    My transmission dipstick fell apart!

I took my boat in to get the tranny fluid changed and the mechanic showed me this! I honestly haven't checked the tranny fluid in a couple years and I don't even know if I would have noticed it wasn't all there. What do I do? Would a magnet work through the dipstick? Am I missing a washer and a nut? Just see if it works? Does the tranny have a magnet in the bottom? I know some cars have that. I believe it's a marine velvet transimission. I'm guessing to pull it would cost me 1-1.5k. Which I would like to avoid. 2005 Tige 24v. Thoughts!??

I think its just a plate with the threads in it. Like a think washer that screws onto the threads, about the diameter of the rubber piece.

Can anyone check to see if the parts missing are magnetic? My mechanic told me there is for sure a small magnet in the tranny itself and probably why I haven't noticed any damage.

Its only the lower washer/plate. Not sure if it's ferrous or not and not sure about the magnet theory either, always send those out for rebuild. What trans is behind your unit?

Sorry Duffy, I had to deal with 3 sick kids last night, got a terrific 4 hours of interupted sleep. I'll try to get a look when I get home from work today, probably around 1800.

Sorry Duffy, looks like I have a different kind of dipstick. Mine has a thick rubber stopper at the top, not a threaded type at all.

My 2008 Z1 has the Marine Power engine matched with a ZF Transmission/V Drive. Both dip sticks are molded plastic
