The ford should tow it fine if you don't try to tow above the 65 of 70mph range and aren't towing in hilly areas. I am a chevy guy myself and had an 07 1500 a few years back and towed my boat with it every weekend 90 mi roundtrip. After a couple seasons and around 25,000 mi it started using oil when pulling a lot though. After talking with a few techs about this, it appears the older 07-09 range chevrolet 5.3L engines with the fuel cylinder shutoff management system use oil, so beware of this issue. I currently pull with my diesel but on occasion have to pull boat with my wifes chevy traverse which has a v6 and it pulls my 07 22ve just fine around the 70mph range if the wind isn't blowing. As far as the boat being priced at 40K I'd say he is on the low end of the scale for price so wouldn't be afraid to buy it if everything checks out on it. After purchasing my 22ve I've put over 5k in stereo and am getting ready to install ballast. I purchased mine a lil shy of the 40 mark and know I will never recover all the cash I'm dropping into it but that just the price you pay for owning a boat. On the good side most inboard boat have went up in value in the past 2-3 years so should hold its value. I would expect some of the upholstry to be worn in areas for that year, and it can be replaced reasonably. As long as the engine and hull check out I would jump all over that boat.

I know the Ecoboost will tow it fine but i'll be getting rid of it in the near future. Its a very nice truck but its been nothing but trouble. I dropped it off earlier today at the dealer to have the clutch pack in the rear end done for the 7th time. Thats not a typo, 7 times in 109,000 KMs. Lots of other small issues mostly related to all the extra unneeded stuff like the heated/cooled seats, sunroof, crap like that. I really just want to go back to a plain jane 1/2 ton 4x4 with cloth seats and not many options. Something i won't feel bad about taking out in the bush hunting and will still do the job for pulling the boat. More than likely i'll be going to a older GMC with a 5.3 so i really hope its up to the task of pulling this boat. I'll have to look up the tow rating before i start shopping. A diesel may make more sense.

At 40k this boat seems like a better deal every day. I keep trying to find similar ones in my area and they're all priced 7-10k more. Everything on this one checks out so far so its looking good. The only reason i havent actually pulled the trigger is i found out on tuesday that i will likely be out of work sometime in the next year. I was hoping to get some more info before i spent 40k of my savings. I ended up finding out this afternoon i'll probably be done at work in June at the latest. It doesnt change anything as far as buying a boat but i wanted to know what was happening first. I may wait a few more days as they keep telling us more details are coming.

And once again, thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it.

I would try taking your truck to a different dealer. Think about it ? Do any other Ecoboost owners you know have repeated problems with the clutch pack on their trucks rears? It very well may be poorly trained technicians at your dealer.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

Its been to all three of the dealers in my area at least twice. I've been trying to raise a stink with Ford Canada but they're just waiting me out till my warranty is done. Clutch packs have been a common weak spot on Fords for a long time but i've never heard of one being done this many times. There is obviously a underlying issue causing the problem but nobody seems to care about it but me. There are lots of other issues with the truck too but i don't feel like typing for the next hour.

Do most guys just get custom sacs made or is it easier/cheaper to move the batteries and open up that space and just throw a 750 or 1100 in there? I would need to do both sides, i surf regular but my wife and all our friends surf goofy. Not sure if its even possible to move the stuff for TAPS that is on the other side.
I have a 2008 22Ve, close enough to the RZ2for this discussion. You really have two options for the ballast - keeping your hard tanks is more difficult and a bit more expensive. removing the factory hard tanks and moving the batteries, blower and Taps pump into the vacated space is easier. I kept my hard tanks and am happy with the outcome. I have surfed in another 2008 22Ve with the same custom sacs without hard tanks. The extra 250 lbs. against the transom may make a slight difference, but the port side would have about 70 lbs of batteries there without the hard tank. The main cost difference is from the battery cables if you move the batteries. I don't exactly remember, but it was over $200 for the cables and terminal parts. I am very happy with my system. Like you, I always switch from regular to goofy at least once on each outing. My next project will be a crossover system to improve fill and drain time when switching sides.

Good luck and best wishes with your purchase.

I have an '08 avalanche with the 5.3. It was not up to the job. I added a supercharger.

I think a plain Sierra would be better. Look for one with the towing package that gets you the better gearing. Also the 6 speed is mandatory in my opinion.

My avalanche is notably heavier and only has the 4 gears. Take away the weight and add the six speed and I think you could do it. Perhaps not for regular mountain trips, but flat land - No problem.

Regarding the afm oil leaking issue, I'd suggest getting a tuner and deleting afm all together. It will save you a lot of hassle and you can tune better for towing while you're at it.

Thanks for the info, i had not came across your install thread but thats exactly the kind of info i was looking for. Realistically i won't have alot of extra cash to throw at the boat for the first season i own it so i'll probably have to get along with the stock ballast and all the fatsacs i have left from my old boat. I'll have to do some experimenting but i'm sure i can get a respectable wave out of it. It will all get updated but not yet.

It seems like everyone here goes with custom enzo style sacs. Does nobody ever just used a 750 or 1100 in the rear locker and maybe a 250 or 400 under the seats? I have a few 750's, 400's and 250's so thats what i'll be using.

Not sure what i'll do for a truck but after today my Ford needs to be gone. Since its at the dealer anyway i asked them to look into why its been idling a little rough lately and i've had a strange thing going on occasionally with what i thought was a turbo issue. Turns out i probably have a stretched timing chain. The repair is going to be around $3500 and while i do still have extended warranty they don't know if it will be covered. So mad about it i can barely see straight.

Not everybody. I used 1100's in the rear lockers on top of the factory hard tanks built into the floor. I'd be curious to see if the 07 had hard tanks in the floor of the lockers or on top like the 22ve did. Here is a writeup on my install, cost was a big factor for me as well.

If one is manually filling, then 2 separate sacs like that works, but its slow and some what of a hassle. If the system sis plumbed in, you are better off to give each sac its own fill, drain and vent setup. A single fill pump will do ok to fill both sacs, but its not too efficient. The real problem comes when draining. A single impeller pump will ok to drain both sacs, but you need to have a check valve in each vent line. Even then, there is going to be some water left in the sac thats furthest away from the pump. A single aerator drain pump will not do the job, so a dedicated drain pump system is needed for each sac. By time you add all the cost up, you are close to a single custom sac that made to maximize the available locker and under seat cavity.

750 plus the factory tank is what I used for our first year and it made a fine wake. It helps to have a few people too. The custom system can definitely wait. Plus you will really appreciate the built in system after doing the manual thing.

Thought i'd let you guys know, i talked to the seller tonight and i told him for sure i'll take the boat, pending a water test. Were gonna do up a conditional bill of sale and i'll give him a small deposit and sounds like it will be mine. It will be atleast a month or more till the water is open enough to test drive it but he had no problem keeping it in his garage at his cabin till then. So i'm pretty excited. I've been boat shopping on and off since august and this is the best boat i've come across in my price range by far. It will need a few small things but compared to some of the junk i've seen its a real gem.
