Happy New Year!!! New member questions???

    Hi there--

Happy New Year!!! I surfed quite a bit last summer at Powell and my favorite boat was an 03 Tige 22v. My new years' resolution is to surf as much as possible, which means that I need to get my own boat. I grew up in a family with a boat, but that was 15 years ago and I have missed it. So, I am looking for advise on searching and buying a "good" boat. There doesn't seem a lot of boats to choose from. So, the questions:

What are the primary shopping sites???

    What's a fair price range for an 03-07 22v or 22ve???

22v vs 22ve difference that big a deal??? They seem pretty much the same to me.

How do hours play in the pricing???

    Outside storage vs. indoor storage???

Is it hard to return an outdoor stored boat to decent shape???

What are the must haves vs nice haves???

What questions should I be asking and haven't???

Any advise from the biggest to the smallest would be great... Thanks a bunch.

    Welcome to the site.

What are the primary shopping sites???
Depends on what you need, but there are a couple of marine vendors that hang out here that specialize in ballast, audio, lighting, etc

22v vs 22ve difference that big a deal??? They seem pretty much the same to me
They are entirely different boats above and below the water line, although they are about the same size and weight. The Ve was introduced in 06 and replaced the V. Ve has a longer windshield and the transom storage and seating. The bow seats are also 2 piece, allowing for easier access to the mid-ship locker. Both produce similar surf and board wakes

How do hours play in the pricing???
IMO, not nearly as much as mileage on a car

    Outside storage vs. indoor storage???
I would just focus on the condition

What are the must haves vs nice haves???
Most anything can be done aftermarket if its not already on the boat.

What are the primary shopping sites???

Onlyinboards.com is a great site as well as boattrader but beware of the scammers on boattrader

      What's a fair price range for an 03-07 22v or 22ve???

03-05 22v will range from 18k to 32k 06 which was first year of 22ve will range from 25k to an 07 around 42k so you can see the 22ve is a lot more pricey!! The 22ve will hold its value though so is not a bad purchase.

22v vs 22ve difference that big a deal??? They seem pretty much the same to me.

As chpthril said mainly the walkthru on back which saves in upholstry replacement cost and is easier to keep clean they also come with a table to eat on boat which some may like. the Engine was changed a little in the 07 22ve also. Cruise control a little different and tower on 07ve which i believe is the boat to go with as I own one and love it!!

How do hours play in the pricing???

Hours i wouldn't worry about as it depends on the owner and how boat was taken care of from yearly maintenance to every trip out maintenance and up keep. I purchased mine with 120 hrs and it was very rough all around as it wasn't taken care of but i got a good price and didn't mind putting some elbow grease into it

      Outside storage vs. indoor storage???

I would highly recommend storing inside if possible as I have had a previous boat I left outside and it was a pain to keep clean due to weather. Current boat is garaged and I can pull out on weekend hookup to truck and i'm headed out as it doesn't need wiped down etc.

Is it hard to return an outdoor stored boat to decent shape???

If the boat is severely oxidized STAY AWAY!! It takes forever to get back into shape Sun plays a huge part on anything boat, car etc. If left outside it will definitely be worn and faded.

What are the must haves vs nice haves???

Again like chpthril said If it comes at a decent price any add on can be made if you are handy it will save $$$$$

I wouldn't even bother with boat trader. Only Inboards is hands down the best bet for wake/ ski boats.

Condition is king regardless of how the boat was stored. Like said above avoid oxidation if you can. Its hard to get the color back and it oxidizes much quicker after its been damaged before. I've seen boats stored outside that looked new and inside stored boats that were trashed. Comes down to the owner and the care they took.

Thank you much the answers, that what I was looking for...

There doesn't seem to be much action on OnlyInboards. However, I did find an interesting boat, but it's over my budget by a bit and seems the dealer has a bad rep, too.

IMO this boat has a good asking price as far as the dealer reputation i can't help with that. It is a sweet looking boat though!!

Maybe i'm wrong about this blue 22v but it was for sale earlier this year in the texas area for that price as a friend of mine was looking at it so it is either a scam or someone got in over their head and can't afford!!

            Any thoughts, I'd appreciate it.
You might try to search 22ve on craigslist out of houston tx area there was a guy down there with a yellow one at first of season and last of season that i spoke to a few times before i bought mine but didn't want to travel 22hr roundtrip to get it. It was an 08 around 39500 looked very clean from pictures with low hours but maybe it has sold. I think i saw it on the TO forums awhile back also so i'm guessing it is still for sale. Winter time is obviously the time to get a deal but be aware as you won't be able to test unless bought in the texas area or state where it isn't freezing A** cold like here in Kansas!!
