    Transmission Slipping

I have a 2002 Tige 20V that was purchased this past summer. It has a velvet drive transmission matched up with the Mercruiser 350 MPI. This is the first inboard I have dealt with as I have always had stern drives. The first time I took the boat out I noticed it was slipping a bit, I checked the fluid levels and it was quite low. I topped off the fluid level and it seemed to work flawlessly the rest of the time for that trip and the next trip. This last time I took it our it started slipping again, but worse than it had before. Only this time I could smell transmission fluid. So I loaded the boat onto the trailer and am now in search of some suggestions as to what the problem could be!

So you checked the transmission fluid again and it was low? Was there fluid in the bilge?

The fluid level shows to be where it needs to be. Could not find any fluid in the bilge or any leaks from the transmission itself. Not sure if I should drain the transmission fluid completely and start over with fresh fluid or if this is a pull and rebuild type scenario?

I had same issue with 2004 21i, i contacted velvet drive and they said the trans dipstick is inaccurate. The full line is not full. when it is low on fluid it will slip. I emptied the velvet drive of all fluid and velvet drive told me the exact amount to refil with and have not had a problem with the velvet drive since.
