    paddle wheel speedo problems

I'am having intermittent, problems with my paddle on the bottom of the boat, I have a 2006 22V, when the speedo stops working, I have to stop the boat, shut it off, go under neath the boat, and flick the paddle wheel with my finger back and fourth, three or four times, it spins freely, its seems fine, but it will work for one run or so then it stops working again. Is there a nice stainless steel replacement paddle instead of a plastic one? and are they hard to replace? Thanks everybody.

Never seen anything but plastic. They do offer rebuild kits for them. The transducer(paddle wheel) is made by airmar. Their US distributer is Gemeco, www.gemeco.com. Rebuild kits are pretty cheap.

My speedo hasn't worked for years. It would work all year then, when my dealer put it on a non-tige trailer for winterization, I think it would break the wheel and when I picked it up in the spring, speedo no longer worked. They asked me to fix it, I did it one time until I figured out what was going on, if I remember right it was a $500 repair each time. Haven't done it since and just used the RPM gauge, not perfect but better than paying the $500 a year.

The dealer was ripping you off!!! Pretty severely at that. I put an entire transducer in my river bat last rear and it was like $130 shipped. They screw in and out of the hull in a plastic collar so take 3 minutes to change. Then maybe the rest of a half our to run the new power cord to the dash and tie up. The rebuild kits are right around $25 if its just the paddle wheel and the entire transducer isn't bad(usually all it is). So as the transducers are more expensive now than they have ever been(like everything) and there is little labor to install, I'm not sure what the dealer was charging you $500 for. Sounds like they broke your boat and then ripped you off to fix their damage....find a new dealer.

The tri-ducer (speedo/water temp/depth) unit is mounted through the hull on the starboard side just below the engine oil filter. If you slid under the boat, you will see the 4 blade paddle wheel.

I got one of these and love it. My speed set is much more accurate and have had no problems with it keeping speed since the upgrade. Much cheaper too. http://www.nauticlogic.com

Wow, thanks for posting that. I think I might order one. I'll finally be able to have my speed gauge working for the first time in 5+years.

I love mine. The cable on it was a little short. I called them and they said I could not lengthen it. I made a patch cable and it works great. I have the RZ4 so it is a little longer than others.

gasoline_24 do you have the cruise control system called Tige speed set? and if you do, what nauticlogic system did you go with, thats what I have in my boat, it's not the perfect pass system, and when I went to their site, they don't say any thing about Tige speed set. Thx

Looks like this is the one. http://www.nauticlaugic.com/nl4-fc%20packages.html

I have the speed set as far as I know. Mine is a 2009. I think the control module was the same. Mine was the NL4-SR. I think this just changes the connectors.
