    Fuel pumps

So this weekend on our biggest boat day at the lake that we've waited all year for, my boat failed to start!! It looks like a fuel pump issue... There is 50 lbs at the rail, and the engine will fire, then die. The fuel psi goes away and drops to zero. From what I've kinda read on here, there are a primary (low psi) pump, and a secondary ( height psi) pump. Since my boat is a 2004 24V with the Marine Power 6.0 in it, does it have two pumps still? And if it does where is the second one located? There is the one attached to the fuel filter bolted to the side of the block, I'm just not sure where the second one is located. I changed the block mounted filter, should there be a second filter as well? I'd like to locate that other pump to see if there is power at the pump.... Any help would be great!

I'm having fuel delivery problems as well. I've got an 04 21i mp 5.7. It's got the high pressure pump mounted on the front of the motor and the low pressure right behind/ under it. I've got 48lbs running good then it'll cut down to a stumbling idle when it looses pressure. I can feel what seams like a surge if I hold onto the low pressure pump when it does it. I stuck a cotter pin in the anti siphon valve to rule that out. And ordered a new low pressure pump. Hope this does it. let you know Thursday. And yes, I removed the cotter pin.

That's what I'm leaning toward, that the low pressure pump is not putting fuel to the high,... Similar to a lift pump and injection pump on a diesel... You don't happen to have part numbers for the low psi pump do you? Or even the high pressure one??

Our low pressure was going bad in our 2006 6.0 so we replaced it. The part number I wrote down is 438108 http://www.marinepartssource.com/new...0ELEC%207.5PSI

You may want to call them because the one we purchased had a cooling coil on it.

Mine is losing power to the fuel pump, it flickers on and off. Now I'm thinking relay or worse, possibly wiring! I put the pump in anyway since I already bought it napa #P4389 exact marine low pressure pump. Anybody know the relay #s ? Or where to find a wiring diagram for a 04 mp5.7 ?

Turns out engine is running in gardian mode, will have to try oil sending unit, tried disconnecting it but that didn't work. Anybody know if mefi requires the sensor to be there? Is mefi looking for a value, not just a on/off oil switch. I think I ruled out everything else.

Yeah a lot of good info there. I finally gave in and brought my boat to the marina. Let them diagnose it properly. Turns out my initial diagnosis, fuel starvation was correct, it wasn't in gardian mode. But now I'm even more confused, the guy at the marina told me to run it off a remote tank, to see if my problem is in the line or tank. Did that and it ran perfect. But now I find no restriction in the tank or the fuel line! Soooo I'm gonna put in a new fuel line, vent valve, siphon valve and put the boat back in the water. A new battery a fresh coat of wax. Cross my fingers and go.
