    '01 21v taps question

How much weight does the taps plate add in regards to pounds? I have heard it is equal to a cretain amount. Thanks

If your talking in reference to ballast weight, it adds nothing. It's not like malibu's wedge that is said to be equivalent to 1000 pounds (I doubt it). The Taps would actually be negative weight. The farther down it is, the move force it lifts up the back of the boat making the wake smaller. For wake boarding, the best way to take advantage of the Taps is to use ballast and use the Taps to shape the wake. Ski=mellow, wake=steep. There really is no replacement for physical weight to make the wake bigger.

Wasn't that Tige's pitch in the late 90's? That taps was just as good as ballast! KX is right, doesn't add a thing. Can never add downforce or drag the hull deeper like the wedge. Can only lift the stern, which can only reshape or minimize the wake.

The TAPS along with the convex hull allowed the hull to sink lower in the water which made the wake naturally larger. Boat hulls of that era had a built in hook to keep the bow down. Remember, that was in the infant days of wakeboarding and the Tige wake even without ballast was huge for that day considering most of the "wakeboard" boats were just modified ski boats. As the sport and the equipment progressed, that huge wake became not so huge and so ballast was added to develop a larger wake. Natural progression, everything seems to get bigger and more radical as the sport evolves.
