My steering has been getting stiffer on my 2007 24ve (150 hours used) and I read up on the forums about the steering cable, etc... and all the fun that can be had replacing that then I found the Rudder Stuffing Box in the manual and decided to add some more grease first to see if that would help. I figured out rather quickly that what I suspected to be a little smeared grease on my prop (before I started greasing) was in fact because when I injected more grease into the rudder box, it shot right out of the bottom of the boat around the rudder. Is there a seal in there that might need to be replaced??? The steering wheel was cranked to the left when I greased it up, I probably should of tried both directions maybe?

The direction of the rudder during the greasing of the rudder box will have not bearing on the greasing. Theres very little space in there, so it will not take much greasing to ooze it out. Wipe off the access and I wouldnt sweat it.
