    343 big enough for a 2012 Z3?

We are looking at a 2012 Z3 and were wondering if a 343 engine is big enough? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't buy a boat that big with the 343. My bro has a 2012 MB 23 TWB with 2300lbs of ballast which I believe is the same amount as themax on a Z3. It definitely needs all 409hp that the 6.0 has. He has the trim plate and that helps so I don't think the TAPS is going to magically make the 343 enough engine.

I would ask ragboy, as i know he has done a lot of testing in a Z3

          It's enough for us

We have a Z3 with the 343 and we run over 3K of ballast when surfing with taps at 4 and have had no issues with power. However, we live in Texas so elevation isn't an issue. I don't think you can go wrong with the 409 though.

I have the 409 with high altitude prop

I ordered my Z3 with the 409. Prior to the Z3 I had a 2010 Malibu Wakesetter LSV with the Monsoon(350 hp). The monsoon with a high alt prop worked fine for the Malibu, but the Z3
is quite stout. I think if you can go the extra mile in price I would get the 409 for this boat. Either way you go, the surf wake is crazy in the Z3.

I think if you're just surfing, the 343 will probably be fine. If you want to wakeboard with full ballast, go with the 409.

Thanks for all the opinions!!! the boat we are getting has the 343 in it, so I am glad that it should be enough power.

Do you wakeboard at all? Where do you live?

I am a wakeboarder. I am from Ontario, and we do all our boarding in Muskoka.

I think you would be ok but with something like the 1235 prop if doing a lot of surfing. That prop makes a huge difference. The Z3 is a beast though, and since the 409 doesn't seem to use more gas surfing, its a great option.

No matter what kind of equipment I'm using, I've never said "I wish this thing had a smaller engine."

I run the 6.0 like in my 24v. It is a great motor. Running 4400 lbs of ballast it costs me $23 bucks average to run it. It pulls very well. No way would I go with a smaller motor in a boat this big. Just rode a new business with the 6.2 supercharged. Oh my god! That motor jumps out of the water, it was amazing. Do your self a favorite and opt for the at least the 6.0 liter motor. You will find it uses less fuel cause it does not have to work as hard.
