    Fuel Problem.

I'm having a few interesting fuel problems and wanted to see if anyone has ever had anything similar. I'm not sure if they are related problems, but they are:

    1. Fuel is coming out of the fill hose after putting in only a few gallons of gas. I've tried pumping slower, but that hasn't fixed the problem.

    2. Fuel is coming out of the overflow tank when parked. I know gas expands when it warms, but not enough to fill up the entire fill hose. My cover is stained and smells like fuel, so it's happening during the week when I'm gone.

    3. The boat starts perfect at the start of each day. After running for a few hours, then off for a few hours while swimming, it will not start. I thought vapor lock, right?

This weekend I added a few gallons of gas and it overflowed through the fill hose. Nothing out of the overflow hose. I ran it for about an hour straight. Ran great. I parked for 2 hours and it wouldn't start. I brought 2 gallons of gas with me, add it and it overflowed out of the fill hose, but started right up after adding fuel. I think this eliminated vapor lock. I don't think the fuel tank was full, but my gauge is stuck on FULL. Following, I ran for over an hour straight and it ran perfect. There's no way I ran for an hour on 2 gallons of gas.

My mechanic tried compressed air through the overflow hose and said it was clear. I can hear the fuel pump prime when I turn the key. Fuel squirted out of the shcrader valve just fine.

I was thinking about a damaged anti-siphon valve? I kink or block in the overflow hose keeping it from venting well?

    Any ideas?

My vent house has a check valve to prevent fuel from coming up through it. If you’re getting fuel out of the vent, make sure your check valve is not stuck open. As far as filling the boat and getting gas burping out, this is a common problem for everybody. Fill slowly and try to figure out how much gas it will take. I have a fuel flow gauge, so I slow way down when within 5 gallons of being full.
Tige, it's a way of life!

More thinking... Could it be the anti-siphon valve is sticking on the fill line? This could explain the overflow when filling. Then the no-start after running could be the due to the vacuum caused when burning fuel. Thoughts?

If you have dual fill ports, you can try to open the opposite side. And just fill slow. Even at the minimum flow rate, I sometimes have to stop and start. I keep my ear close to the filler to listen for gurgling. I hardly ever get an ear full of fuel.

Invert the fuel nozzle when you insert it into the filler neck. Keeps mine from burping before it is full.

The no start is vapor lock. When you opened the fill to put more gas in that relieved the vapor lock. That means your tank vent is clogged or pinched and as laser fish said, invert the fuel nozzle to avoid splash back.
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...
