1999 Tige' 2100V Limited

Hello All,

I am new to this site, but not new to boating and looking to purchase a used Tige'. I originally had test drove a 2002 21V Riders Editions with 314 hours that needed upholstery work, perfect pass fixed, and what I suspect as a water pump or alternator problem (heard metallic grinding on the engine and verified when I didn't hear it on the 99). I then stumbled across a 1999 2100V Limited in immaculate condition with only 204 hours and the owner has had the interior completely reupholstered. The 99 has virtually only been run to be maintained and has been meticulously cared for. Hull, interior, and engine are perfect; just needs a better tower. For $4k less, it seems the 99 is virtually the same exact model as the 2002 (dead rise, hull, layout, and free board, etc...) All things being equal, it seems the 99 is the better value for $4k less. What are everyone's thoughts? I put the 99 in the water this weekend.

I would always recommend going with the one taken care of more. If the 21V had that many issues from looking at it, who knows how many more you aren't finding. What else did the 21V owner neglect?

On the 2100V why was the interior replaced if he hardly used it?...I forget when Tige changed from wood to composite stringers. Wood stingers aren't a bad thing unless they were neglected.

Also don't overlook the trailer, that is what gets you from your house to the water and back. My guess is the 21V trailer needs some work also.

I'd probably go with the 2100V, just because how you described the conditions of the two.

I'm sure others with those model boats will chime in as well.

Thanks for the reply. The 2100 interior was replaced when the current owner bought it in 2005. He got transferredfor work and has only virtually ran to maintain in the past four years. 2100 has a new serpentine, alternator, impeller, five new Goodyear tires on the trailer, bearing buddies, and maintained teak. It is an older gentleman that cars for his toys and kept it inside in climate controlled storage. The 21V is the original owner withall service records, but I hear a problem in the engine. The only benefit the 21v has in my opinion is that its three years newer, but I think this might be an irrelevant point because the hull and model look to be the same withminor changes. Could someone confirm this?

As some point they removed the spray pockets on the sides. That cleaned up the wake a bit. I think that was 03 though. Other than that they were basically the same boat. Metcraft tower was not great because it was the first try at a tower. New ones are anywhere between 1200 to 3500, depending on quality you buy. I just put a new Samson on mine last year and it made a good bit of difference. If you keep the Metcraft, just be sure and keep all the joints tight, but you should do that on any tower.
