    Gas tank vent

Can I use this instead of the stock gas tank vent? My vent is below water while I surf.

I would rather not cut another hole in my boat

#1, put a loop your vent line. Add a longer hose section if necessary.

#2, your boat should have a check valve in the vent line which should prevent water from getting in anyway.

Just looking for the easiest solution....

It has a check valve, still water gets in the line and the tank doesn't vent correctly.

Does it also have a loop? Pretty fast and cheap solution if it works. You may be able to loop up high enough under the gunwale to keep the top of the loop above the water level.

a loop would still get water in it?

Start at the vent thruhull. The hose would come off that and go UP into the gunwale space as far as possible, then loop back down and head toward the check valve and tank. Now the water can get into the first few inches of the hose, but will drain right back out again because the thruhull is lower than the loop.

To get water past the loop you'd have to sink the hull all the way down to the (gunwale - thickness of the fiberglass). Unless the vent is all the way back at the transom, that would mean the rear corner of the boat would be underwater.

Won't the check valve stop the water from draining back out?

Not if it's downstream of the loop:

The hose would come off that and go UP into the gunwale space as far as possible, then loop back down and head toward the check valve and tank.
Properly set up, the loop is the highest point in the vent line. Water cannot get trapped in it.
