Prop for 2300v

    Prop for 2300v

    Currently I have a 13" x 13 on my 2002 2300v and it has decent hole shot and good top end. When wake surfing under 10 mph, I have trouble holding the speed constant. Is there a better pitch I can put on the prop or possibly go to a larger prop? I have 1.5" clearance from the top of the prop to the bottom of the boat. What is the OEM specs for the 2300v?

    Do you have a 3 or 4 blade on there now? Is you V-drive unit the Black 1:1 ratio or the blue 1.5:1 ratio.

      It is a 4 blade with the black 1:1

        For the 4-blade's on the 1:1 gear boxes, the ACME 653 (3-blade 13x11.5 .060 cup) is a very popular swap. Next is the 911 (3-blade 13x10.5 .080 cup) or the 525 (3-blade 13x11.5 .080 cup). But most of the these swaps Ive seen are on the 21V or the 21i, which also has a 1:1 ration. Surfdad had a 23V and I know he upgraded his prop, but I do not know what he had to start with or what he ended up with. Also do not know what gear he had. You may want to send Surfdad a PM. He's here often, but may not see this thread as he typically hangs out in the surf section of the forum.

        Also, contact ACME. Give them your info and they will give you a couple recommendations.

          I have the same boat. I started with a 13x13 stock prop. As I added weight I went to an Acme 525 then a 911. The 911 was able to pull 4000lbs of water weight out of the hole, but it worked really hard. I then found a brand new 1.5:1 v-drive and swapped out my 1:1. Now I'm running a 14x14.25 and a 13.75x14.25 as a spare.

          The 525 and 911 are both three blades and they are going to hold speed much better then your stock. If your really loading it down then I would go with a 911.

            So here is another question.... I have a prop shop in my city, could I have them change the pitch or put more cup into the prop? How large(diameter) of prop can you put on the 2300V? Would a 14" prop give me much advantage?

              The folks at ACME are the experts and they are very consistent with the recommendation of going from a 4-blade on a 1:1 to a 3-blade.

              You'd have to ask you local shop if they could custom shape that prop. Is it a stainless or a Nibral?

                Chp is right. On a 1:1 the three blade is far superior. You could have them pitch down your prop and play with the cup. That would work and you would get a better hole shot and better speed holding. But if I were you I would grab a 525 or 911 and keep your stock as a spare.

                And you really won't be able to go up in diameter because of the limitations with the 1:1 v-drive. The gear reduction of the 1.5:1 is what allows our boats to swing larger diameter props. When I first bought my boat I dinged my prop and forgot to bring it in when I bought a new one. They asked me at the time if my v-drive was gear reduced and I thought that it was. So they gave me a 13.5 x 16. And the boat would barely even go, weekend killer. So a spare prop is a great thing to have.

                  Bobby's dead on about going up in dia. It takes more motor to turn the larger dia prop, and with only a 1:1, its gonna be a struggle....you may end up loosing ground from where you are right now.
