    Engine removal

    Hey

Looking to lift the engine out of my 08 22ve in a couple weeks for some calendar maintenance.
Anybody out there got any good tips/hints that may make the whole experience a little more enjoyable?
It's a marinepower 340hp so also if anybody could point me in the direction of a better maintenance manual other than the owners manual would be a great help too.

    cheers

The boats owners manual? Or the engine owners manual?

Here is a manual from MP

Thanks strohlde, I already have that manual, I was looking for something a little more detailed, preferably with a parts indexing.

Just out of curiosity what calendar maintenance are you doing that you need to remove the engine?

due to the salt water operations corrosion is starting to creep in around the engine mounts, and as far as I can see it will be easier to just lift the engine out rather than work around it.

Get a fork lift to lift it out it really is not to hard you should be able to have the enging out with in a couple of hours at most. Lift the trans oil out attached to the engine remove the vdrive makes it a littl easier to turn it sideways and pull it out

Wouldn't call it "easy", but with the right tools it is not too hateful. I pulled mine as I developed a rod knock and needed to do a full rebuild on mine, so I pulled it and did a full ground up re-build which was far cheaper then a new crate engine would have been.

Without a good forklift or overhead lifting device (like a trolley hoist) I wouldn't do it again.

Removing the center hatch will help as well as the center cushions and such.

It is real tight to lift the motor strait up so what I found to be the easier way was to split the trans off the motor in the hold, then rotate the motor 90degrees to lift strait up. I split the trans and lifted it into the main playpen area of the boat to create more space to work which seemed to help, then on re-install dropped the motor into place and then slid the trans to the motor. Lining the trans up with the motor was the hardest part of the re-install IMO.

After doing mine, I would avoid the full removal unless 100% necessary.

What was causeing the knock, and how was the rest of the motor?
