    TAPS ram sensor?

    Hi Guys,

New forum member here checking in from Hilton Head Island, SC.

We just acquired a 2001 21V and are performing some minor repairs and upgrades. One of the minor issues is that the gauge for the TAPS system isn't functioning. We've determined that the actual gauge works fine, the issue appears to be with the sensor at the wake plate itself. Any help with a part number and/or a source for replacement parts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any info.

Here's a pic of the new ride...

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Welcome.
Not sure which TAPs system you have, but I have TAPs 2.
On my system, there is no sensor to read the angle of the plate. My system uses an eclectic actuator. The controller will perform a homing sequence once it is powered on. This is how the gauge and the taps plate get sync together. ( the gauge gets it value from the controller box. The value is an estimate based on what the box has told the actuator to do)
Tige, it's a way of life!

      Thanks for the reply.

I'm really not familiar with the difference between TAPs and TAPs2, the badges on the boat simply say "TAPS" if that helps. If I understand the system correctly there is a sensor at one of the hydraulic rams that sends a signal to the gauge and tells it the angle of the tab. Using a tester, we were able to get power to the gauge to move it up and down so it appears that the gauge itself is fine.

      Thanks again.

        I believe 2 actuators = TAPS-1 and 1 actuator = TAPS-2.

It was my understanding that there was a potentiometer (variable resister) in the actuator that controlled the ground side of the gauge.

Wasn't there an electric TAPS in there around 2003 or 2004 and then they went back to hydraulic?
Yours is probably an original TAPS with 2 rams like our 2000.

Thanks again for the responses. Ours has the 2-ram setup (TAPS). I've been poking around on the Bennett site but can't quite figure out exactly what it is I need...nothing like learning a new (to us) boat..

chpthril, was checking out your ballast install thread...good stuff!

                      HHWS:

Don't want to hijack too badly....but are you adding wake surfing to the mix? We visit HH every yr for 2-3 weeks in the summer. Just wondering?
