    DEAD 2008 22Ve HELP!

I have an electrical problem I need help with. My 5.7l Marine Power just quit while idling along and was completely dead. All accessories worked, but there was no ignition horn and the info screen came on though it was slow. By the time we were towed into our dock, everything worked perfectly! This happened a couple of months ago and I replaced a fuse that seemed to be bad, but it was pretty much the same thing: by the time we were towed in everything worked and has worked for a couple of months. Any ideas? Does this sound like the ECU? Thanks for your ideas.

Check your ground calbes. Check your batteries with the proper tester, (Sears or CARQUEST has the best tester on the market to test them with. It is called a ONE STEP tester)and you will probably fix your problems. I have seen this happen a lot and most of the time it is the ground connections dirty and loose, or the power connections dirty and loose.

Thank you, I will try that, but I do think it is something else because there was ample battery power to empty two large ballast sacs after the engine quit. The batteries are less than a year old and stay charged with dock power when in the slip. I checked the electrolyte levels about a month ago. The boat started easily several times this morning, but I hope you are right with a simple fix!

I checked the ground connections that I could find and there was a small terminal block of some kind mounted behind the port battery. There is a large ground wire connected on the back of the terminal and a small black wire mounted on the front. The small wire connection wasn't real tight so I tightened it and tried the starter. It is dead again. The system horn didn't work, but there was a buzzing/clicking noise behind the ignition switch that I only hear when the problem occurs. All other electrical accessories work fine. Thanks for any ideas or advice.

One more simple thing you can check is the wires on the IGNITION switch itself. Make sure they are tight. I have seen those come loose. IF they are all tight. If they are then side of being there to check the system I don't know where to direct you in way of checking systems. Their certainly is a lot of other checks but that is something I would just have to do it is hard to explain.

I checked the switch connections first. I do wonder if it is the switch itself. Is the only way to check it by replacing it? I am calling in professional help as I have tried everything I know to do. Thanks for your tips and advice; i realize how hard this would be to diagnose from a distance!

Lee, electrical can be an easy thing or it can be a complicated thing. My last boat had an electrical gremlin. Good luck in getting it figured out. Cause if you are anything like me things like this just annoy this SH*T out of me, and I obsess over it until it gets fixed.

You know, I recall a post similar to this one earlier this summer from someone, and it ended up being a loose battery cables. I can't remember if it was the positive or the negative cable, but the loose cable was the root of the problem.

Just a thought. I know it's simple, but it is overlooked.

Side topic, not meant to jack your thread, but shouldn't you be preparing for Austin City Limits? HAHAHA!

We are prepared for ACL. Our daughter has her pass and my wife and I are going to the lake! We live way to close to ACL to stick around.

Lee, could be the circuit/ fuse board up by the ECM. Give me a call @ Texas Tige Marine 936.447.8443, if you are still having this problem. I can run you thru a couple of tests, and I have one in stock if it turns out to be that. If it doesn't, we can check other possibilities. Brandon Raymond - Service Manager
