Advice on 1999 or 2001 Tige V21

Hi All,

I looking to get a used Ski/Wakeboar hybrid boat that my Boys can enjoy wakeboarding (beginers) and my wife can enjoy sking (Slalom - Intermediate). The dealers in my areas has 1999 Tige V21 (15.5K) and 2001 Tige V21 (21.5K). They also have 2002 MB Sports 220 with similar hours (22K). My budget is up to $20K.
Would appreciate any info or advice you have.

Some questions I have:
What is the main differences between 1999 and 2001 Tige? Are the 1999 and 2001 Tige V21 cosidered reliable boats?
Anything that I need for or check closely with those boats?
How would 2002 MB Sports 220 compare to Tige 2001 V21?

Both great boats, depending on overall condition either one would serve you needs equally well.

I bought a 2001 21V Riders Edition last year and it was a very good boat for both skiing and wakeboarding. They are built rock solid but a couple things worth looking at closely include: the steering cable, make sure wheel turns easily, if not it likely needs replaced; The TAPS plate, make sure it easily travels up and down in less than a minute; The wakeboard towers often crack around the top welds, so look it over closely as it may need some welding. Finally.. check the prop closely for damage, they are pretty expensive to replace with a good one, runs $500-$600.

Otherwise, of course, take it for a test drive to insure the motor and hull are solid and the end of the day just remember what BOAT stands for and you'll be fine.

Not 100% sure, but I believe the hull is the same not to many changes from a 99 to 01 21V. I think they will have different V drive units.

Love mine had a 98 21i before it was also a great boat.

Great boats and built solid, except for the Metcraft towers. Check those over good. Puts out a solid wake for both boarding and surfing. Both helped with ballast as they get more confident. Handle rough water with no equal. Love ours, has the blue v drive in the 2000. Drive them both and choose the one that you like best. Check the vinyl well as it gets a little brittle with years and if they did not keep it well. Good luck.

I had a '99 21i and I would concur on the tower. Check the tower out carefully. Some cracks where an issue. Even if you look at one of these Tige and you replace the tower with a new Monster or Titan or other you will still be under your 20K budget.

Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. Regardless of hours maintenance is the key. Ask if they have been regularly servicing the boat or if they might have records? I'd even ask them for the previious owners name. If their straight up they may provide it for you.
