how many hours is too many?

    hi
currently looking at buying a tige, was looking at a z1 cause of my price range but have found a rz2 i am interested in. its a 2009 RZ2 ex dealers demo boat and has never been sold. the boat is super clean and looks great but it has 400 hours on the clock. is this a lot of hours for a 09 boat?? how many hours are you ment to get out of the engine before any major replacements or problems??
    thanks

Don't worry about the hours if it has been well maintained.

I HAVE 18500 HOURS ON MY DIESEL SNAP ON TRUCK.IT RUNS GREAT.I ALSO HAD AN AIR COOLED ONAN GENERATOR ON MY LAST TRUCK IT HAD 3800 HOURS AND RAN GREAT.WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT IS MATAINENCE.IF THAT WAS DONE YOU'LL BE FINE.MY O7 TIGE 22VE HAD 426 HOURS ON IT AND RAN LIKE A TOP.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

Its what i would call more than average but not insane. If it was serviced right is the key.If your going to be putting 200hrs a year on it I might look somewhere else but if your going to avg 50-75 a year I would say you would be fine. 1000 hrs is no problem for these engines if they are serviced regular. It really is more about how it was cared for over how many hours.

Just a side not, you mentioned that it was a dealer demo that has never been sold. I believe with that many hours on a demo there will be no warranty from Tige. That many hours will not be an issues but if your expecting a warranty you may not get it.

Double check with dealer about warranty or even phone Tige talk to Harvey. When I checked on my boat Tige told me regardless of age as long as it wasnt registered with tige as being sold it was still considered brand new and they did give me full warranty.

I am with skippa on this one if anybody tells you that boat has a warranty you better get it in writing. From what I know (and I dont speak for Tige) a demo boat with that many hrs will NOT have a warranty. Unless something has changed that I am not aware of. You can buy and aftermarket warranty if you like a little peace of mind.

You can check this thread out for some more information. As long as you have it in writing you should be fine, if that is an area of concern.

I guess the other thing is if they are knocking a bunch off to compensate for that it may not be an issue either.

More hours is better than less. The problem with boats and their engines is they don't get enough use/time and that's when things break down. I have a customer that has a raw water cooled (saltwater boat), 26' Striper, with a GM based 5.7L TBI small block that has 2460 hours on it. I have serviced it since they bought the boat new and the only major replacment was the gas tank, the engine has been awesome aside from 4 fuel pump replacements in the past 2 years. Enjoy!
