I would like to add ballast to my 2004 22V and I am looking for some advice. We usually ride with 4 people (around 650lbs) and wish we had the wake we did with a full boat. Any recomendations on how much weight, where to place sacks (front, back, middle) and any other info I may be missing? As far as rider skill level, we have riders everywhere from beginner to guys working on inverts. We also want to be able to use the ballast to throw up a nice surfing wake, especially me since I am 195 and everyone gets a decent surf wake but me right now!

I normally ride on an 04 22V and the setup my buddy runs is a 350 on each side of the engine and a 600 in the walkway. With that much ballast and with a few people the wake is very nice.
For surfing, you want to put a lot of weight in the rear locker and just a tad up front. This past Sunday we rode a single 350 in the right locker (for goofy riders) then a single 600 in the walkway. We also had about 6 adults sit on the same side. The TAPS was about 6 or 7 and the speed was at 11.5.
When you know you have enough weight is when your boat has a major lean.

i'll back up what Matt says...
we ride on an 03 and an 05, anything like 350's or 450's in the sides of the motor, and around 500-600 in the walkway should get you a nice wake.
empty the starboard motor sack and put all your gang on the port side and you should have a great surf wake. You may have to play with the speed and taps, 11-12mph and taps around 7ish.

Right on, good info, thanks much! I was looking at two 280's that are round for the engine compartments, but I am worried they may roll around. Do you have square or round sacks in the back?
Jeffro, where do you ride in Austin? We ride up on the Perd mostly, we are out almost every weekend.

Jeffro,
I know you guys, my name is Chris and I have the pacific blue and white 22V with the blue and Grey bimini. My friends and I took a lesson with Dave when the MTV producer was in town filming for the Made segment. I think I have met you a couple of times, I met you through Erika, I used to work with her. Small (Tige) world. We still need to drink a beer next time we are all out on the Perd!

All right, so we are ordering 280's for the back and a 580 for the front floor, what pump do you guys recommend, I see three on wakeside.com, a Fat Boy 1100 and 2000 and a Tsunami 1200. The 2000 is almost twice the 1100 and the 1200 is in the middle but seems to have better reviews overall. Really is the 2000 GPH necessary for the sacks we are getting?

The picture above.
That is one purdy lookin' wake. I only have one question. Why the hell is that guy holding onto a rope! You could get tubed in that thing. Surfing with a rope is not surfing. Pictures of surfing with a rope are not surfing pictures. Slack or not, you've still got a safety net. I don't mean to sound angry but dude, look at that wake. It's all in good fun but come on man, let go. And if you are taking pictures, wait 'till they let go.You'll get your chance, smart guy.
