Ok guys before I spend time looking into this thought I might ask you fells. I was out this last weekend with about 1500 lbs surf ballast and felt like the trans was coming in and out of gear? 2003 22v PCM engine.

Id be carefull about adding extra fluid, too much could cause the oil to get to much air and not enough expansion room.
If you do add do it, add ounce at a time and see what the fluid looks like after a run ballasted, if its full of bubbles you could cause internal problems.

I have had that happen and wrote it off to the prop cavitating. Never considered the trans slipping as it feels exactly the same as cavitation always has. Lifting one side and pressing the other down, especially if there are any waves at all could force a lot of air under the boat.
If it's milky, that usually means water is in it. Bill at WWS showed me a couple that they have had where water sat in the brass cooling pipe that runs through the drive and froze and then cracked that piece which then destroys the v-drive.
