Skiing Behind a V

I know the V's aren't a ski boat first but can you get a decent ski wake out of them? We are looking for an 03 21i DD multisport boat (ski/ride/surf) but are also considering an 02 21V. Can anyone comment?

Don't be scared. What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger. The wakes are certainly not tournament level but, if your just going out to make some turns, it'll be manageable. I've heard of people running ballast in the nose to get the stern out of the water, thereby flattening the wake out considerably. Best thing to do, as always, is ski it for yourself.

We put a high end skier behind our new 24Ve before tucking it away for the winter, and he was mightily impressed. Especially given that it was a v-drive and not a direct drive.

I agree the bow ballast might further improve things, particularly on the 24 footers where the extra length will enhance the effect of weight in the bow. We'll experiment next year and report back.

I would say, find a 2005 or newer 20V, or a SwitchV. It's a little smaller, but gives you the best of both worlds.

Ussually the more you put the bow done it increases the trough in the center of the wake, we get the best wake with taps at 1.5 to 2 and 60 foot line or less that setting takes the peak out of the wake and and makes it flat and soft.

V Drive Slalom

I have a 20V '09 and have been impressed with the slalom wake. I ski with about 60' of line and set the TAPS at 3. Ski at 32 and it's been good so far. I was worried that the wake would be too much since I have spent my skiing life behind outboards which I liked the wake better than a Mastercraft Prostar. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the ride behind the 20V and can't wait for spring. Good luck.
