Tach reads too Hi

2002 23ve, 350 Mag MPI

Today, I noticed my tach was reading a little over 1 thousand rpms too high at all throttle settings including idle.

I know it is probably a ground or connection somewhere.

Any pointers on where those might be?

I have something similar to this on my 2000 21V with the 350 Mag MPI.
The tach looks higher than what I am hearing, I tap on the face of the gauge and the needle falls to something more reasonable, tap the gauge again and the needle climbs again.
Not sure what is causing this? Same cause as Billua's problem?

I also just had this problem for the first time this weekend. mine was way off. at about 30mph it was reading past 6,000rpm. i believe at 30mph it should be at 3,000rpm?

I didn't tap the gauge. I think if you tap yours and it goes down, you have just found your problem as a bad tach or connection at the tach.

I will check some things out when I get back home and when I get back to the lake, hopefully this week end.

tach calibration

try clicking "downloads" then "manuels" then "Faria Tachometer specs". Scroll to page 14 and read about how to adjust calibration on a tach.
I have read it a few times. I'm still not sure on the exact steps to calibrate the tach so it is in sync with speedometer.
