    2001 21 V TAPS HELP!!

    Hey Forum,

This is my first post as I am hoping to become a 1st time Tige owner.

I looked at a boat today that was listed as having the TAPS system, but when I was in the boat, there was no TAPS control on the throttle. There is the TAPS gauge which reads '1', but I could not figure out how to control or change it. The throttle lever just has a silver ball on the end of it.

Does anyone have any comment or thought on this? Does this boat not have adjustable wave plate? It does have the plate in the back, but not sure it functions.

    Thanks in advance!

    And..

Also, if it is not adjustable, can this be fixed or upgraded?

    Thanks!

Sounds like someone replaced the throttle with the wrong assembly.

So there is no wake plate between the two exhaust ports under the swim platform? Also do you see on the throttle that the switch was there? Look in the starboard ski locker and you will see a small access door. Look in there and see if the taps pump is there. If it's not, I would be asking some question why. But it sure could be replaced. I would guess it would be around 600 to 800 to redo, just a guess.

Im pretty sure the 01's had TAPS. It may be a rocker on the dash, or the owner replace the throttle assembly. I'm guessing it had the plate and ram still on the transom?

It absolutely has the wake plate on the back. I just cannot figure out how to adjust it via the throttle lever. There is no switch or toggle anywhere I can see around the cockpit that would adjust the pitch of the wake plate.

I will look in the locker tomorrow and see what I can find. I'm curious if it has had the lever replaced before. It looks just like a friends on his centurion.

It wasn't an option, correct? If the gauge is there, the plate is there, it should be adjustable, right?

              Thanks a ton everyone,

The switch on my 21v riders is on the throttle. Look on he backside of the throttle handle and see if there are 2 wires disconnected that could have been there, then you know the handle was replaced.

Wow. Okay. Thanks. Not sure why someone would replace the throttle with one that doesn't control the plate...

I think the throttle handle with the TAPS switch in it is probably a custom order unit from Tige.
I searched for one awhile ago and couldn't find one.
A dash mounted switch could be added.
The guys at Bennett Marine, bennetttrimtabs.com, FL - 954 427-1400 who build the TAPS for Tige can probably help find a suitable switch.
If you can find a handle the switch in the handle is a Carling rocker switch - 62111481-0-0-N.
The TAPS pump is a modified Bennett Marine hydraulic power unit, V351HPU1, which uses one side of a standard 2 trim plate setup.
A standard 2 valve pump can be used by plugging one side.
The pumps go for around $220.

Very helpful info. I did just talk to the owner and he said that the throttle was replaced with one that does not control the TAPS, but it does work. I guess I will start looking for that. He said they planned on adding a switch, but didn't get around to it.

Again, thanks! I think I will buy a Tige just because of this forum. Seems like an endless amount of information.

                        FYI

Seems as though it is impossible to get that throttle lever anymore. Probably the reason it was replaced with one that has no toggle. I was advised by a few helpful individuals at Tige that the best solution might be to wire a toggle at the dash. I think that is the plan.

An on-off-on momentary rocker switch would probably be your best bet. I would be asking the question of why the throttle lever was changed in the first place. Check out everything else to be sure it was maintained properly. If you get the boat you will love the way it performs. Wouldn't trade mine.
