I want to remove the rear ballast tanks to help change the steering cable, check the water pump impeller, change the oil and filter, and the fuel filter. I just bought the boat, it has 142 hours, its a clean boat, kept on Lake travis (fresh water). I just want to make sure that boat has been looked over. I am also going to change the v drive fluid, trans fluid, and belts. Is there anything else that should be checked?

Congrats!
All good, I may add take a look at the plugs. Easiest to change them when all the boards are out.
Also regarding the impeller, it is a 25 dollar part and your tear down to inspect it is only 60 seconds away from installing a new one. Trust me, better to do it and not worry about it.

water pump replacement
I pulled the water pump off to change the impellar and found the the pump is not turning very well. It feels rough and does not turn very good. Is there a rebuild kit or do I have to buy a whole new pump? It is a johnson pump on a 5.7l marine power motor. The pump also has a water line running to the lower half of the fuel filter, not sure what that is for. I found several new pumps online, but none of the them had the extra outlet running to the fuel filter. I want to either replace the pump or rebuild it for sure, better safe than sorry. Plus it was a pain to get back there. Any suggestions, I am dying to get the boat on the water.
