Last fall took my brand new Tige with PCM motor to dealer for winterise. The dealer found water in the oil and said to do a lake test in the spring. Well they found water was entering the engine after lake test this spring. My question is how good is PCM on warrenty? Also any ideas what could of happen? This was the first winter after use for this boat.

Considering tige started using pcm's in 2009, there's probably not much experience in this board regarding PCM and their customer service. I only have 55 hours on mine. Zero issues so far. You might want to check out the nautiques owners site since they have been using them for years.
Wish I could be more helpful.

I had water in my engine on my old boat, it was an exhaust flap that broke, like a one-way check valve to let the exhaust out and keep water from backing up into the valves and, then the engine. Didn't figure out it was the exhaust "flap" until I needed other work done on the lower unit, when they found the broken pieces of the flap. Before that they took apart the entire top end of the engine but never found any evidence of a bad gasket or cracked or leaking head or riser. while it was all apart I had the heads ported and decked, put on new exhaust risers and new valves for the tune of $2,600. They put it all back together and still couldn't find how water was getting in. Like I said, i took it in a few months later for some work on the lower unit and they found the flap, I asked if that is how water got in the engine and he light bulb came on and the mechanic said "yeah, thats probably how it got in there, everything else looked fine"
I'm still new to inboards but with the exhaust straight out the back, you have to be careful when decelerating, that big wave push that hits the back of the boat sends a lot of force up the exhaust pipe, if the exhaust flap is bad, its only a matter of time.
Its only a few hundred dollar job to fix the flap on an I/O, after talking to other mechanics, thats the first thing you should look at with water in the engine. Needless to say I'm never going back to that mechanic. If you want to know who it was, PM me, I'll tell you.Last edited by Ewok; 06-24-2010, 03:00 PM.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

Duck,
I am not buying this. The dealer has taken care of the situation, right? Your post made it sound a little bit like the dealer told you to call PCM...I hope that ain't true.
Maybe someone who has more experience can tell, but water in the engine is a bad thing, and I cannot think of it as being normal. If it stops getting in, then I guess you could put your arms in the air and just watch it carefully.Be excellent to one another.
