    1999 2100v transmission problems???

I just bought a 1999 2100V that had 91 hours on it and the engine, transmission, and boat are in like new condition. The boat had not been drivin for 5 to 7 years. After changing the fuel pump, it stated right up and the engin ran strong and smooth. It pulled skiers up with no problem at all, but I did notice that while in gear at 1,100 to 1,300 RPMs there is a noticable increase/change in noise and slight vibration. It appears to be coming from the transmission or v drive unit? I checked the oil in both units and they are very clen and full. Any RPM above or below that range I do not hear or feel any thing unusal? I have never driven a v drive model and am wondering if this is normal or where the problem might be???

The Chevy 350 V8 has a normal harmonic vibration right in that RPM range. If the prop is not dinged, or bent shaft, or loose motor/V-drive mounts, then id say that's what you are feeling.

The damper plate springs could be loose and will make a tapping sound at about that rpm and go away when more load is applied, put a hearing scope on the bellhousing and see if its louder there.

Wow, thanks for the advice, now you mentioned it I think the nosie/vibration was coming from the bell housiing. I will run it again today and will put an ear to it. Can the damping plate spring be ajusted without pulling the engine? I am really hoping this is a simple fix.

          New Tranny

Here's my bad story. Test drove boat, performed flawlessly. Took it out for the first time with family and friends... engine warm, idled out, sunny day, ready to get on plane to get to another section of water, gave it the beans and...zippo. No power but plenty of billowing smoke from the engine compartment. Lots of it.

$4,000 later I had a new tranny and she runs like buttah.

            What are these damping plates?

The flywheel is bolted to the crankshsft, next is a flexplate that has a circle of springs that are attached to the spline hub that the transmission shaft goes into, that cirle of springs is to dampen vibration and when they get loose they rattle until more load is applied, the only fix is to replace the flex plate. This is not that bad a job and a lot cheaper then a trans.
