      I like the sea strainer idea. Is the impeller the only device that pulls water into the system? Or is there a pump before the impeller to aid in pulling in water. In my mind the water entering the boat must be being cut off before it gets to the impeller. The thing that has me puzzled is this, when I connect the hose and close the valve the water shoots out of the scoop and when I open the valve with the impeller cover off, it shoots out of the impeller cavity and when I close the impeller cover it shoots out of the exhaust. So when water is forced through the system it runs through but when idling it overheats. Something mechanical is not doing its job.

          I take mine to Stateamind Watersports in St. Louis because that is where I bought it. There is a Tige dealer in Cadiz(Skippers Boatique).

            just a dumb suggestion, but is scoop pointed the right way? Is intake clogged somewhere inline? You might take a few hoses loose and look around. Probably something really simple and obvious. At least thats what happens to me. I usually remove the entire engine and trans only to find out I ran out of gas.

              Yeah, found the sea strainer. Had to take out the back seat to get my hands on it. Unfortunately I couldn't remove it with my hands. I will buy a filter wrench tomorrow and take it off. Let me know if there is anything I should know before taking it off. Is there any way to test the impeller through the scoop in my driveway?

                You would need a Fake a Lake to test the impeller in the driveway.

                  Sea strainer was clear. All the lines hoses are clear. When I run water to it, water pours out of the impeller cavity. When I close impeller cover, water pours out the exhaust. Could it be the termostat? Where is it? I can't find it.

                    Wish I knew more about the closed cooling systems. Sorry. Surely someone on here has the closed cooling option.

                      A sticking thermostat could cause overheating. Normal operation would be to allow water to bypass engine and flow to exhaust while engine is cold and thermo is closed.

                        I'm definitely not a mechanic so this may be way off the mark...especially since yours has a closed loop. Mine overheated originally. The dealer would hook up the hose to the inlet hose of the water pump to test the engine, etc...and everything worked fine. When in the water it would overheat. It turned out the drain (from winterizing) in the transmission wasn't reinstalled, so the pump couldn't get primed. Just a thought.

                          Finally figured it out after pulling the pump. Whoever had recently serviced it and changed the impeller put the wrong length impeller in. They probably just measured it with a measuring tape and didn't get an accurate enough measurement. The difference was 3/32. They installed a 1-29/32" impeller and the cavity is 2". They should of done their job and match the impeller from a parts book. As predicted, it was the impeller. The boat is headed to its summer home. Appreciate all the help.

                              i have the same motor and same problem, these motors run anywhere between 175 and 190 degrees, if you idle through an extremely long no wake zone the temp wil climb above 200, and it will vavpor lock, it will idle but you cant give it gas, i had the boat into the dealer a couple of times, they never did fix the problem, there is one easy fix, if your boat does it again, either take some cold lake water and pour it on the fuel pump at the top of the water fuel separator or take a small sandwich bag with ice and place it on top of the pump, with in a few seconds you will be able to give it throttle, on lake mead we have a no wake zone about half a mile long. also, same thing with my boat, i can hook it up to the garden hose at home and it wont go above 185, i would imagine being at home hooked to a garden hose and not being in gear verses a no wake zone where your in gear makes the difference as far as heat goes, but for emissions reasons the 6.0 liter engines is designed to run hotter.

                                Mine was overheating and was just low on coolant and that fixed the problem. If that doesnt work than you might have a piece of impellor broken off block the flow.
