    speedo not working

Put the boat (06 20v) in the water for the very first time and found the speedo needle does not work. Reading this form seems to be a common problem. My question is there a way to check and see if its the sending unit that has a paddle wheel the turns freely or the gauge thats not working? Any help be great, Thanks

Give the wheel a good visual inspection. The, with the key on, spay a garden hose across the wheel and see if it spins and the needle registers speed.

90% of the time, its a damaged wheel. the other 9% it's a transducer.

If you have a digital volt/ ohm meter you can check the signal from the paddle wheel to the guauge , it is a freqency signal and you can watch it go up and down as you spin the paddle, if there is a signal the gage is bad, if there isnt its the triducer.

This past weekend on our 09 RZ2, the speedometer (both analog and digital) stopped working after about 2 hours on the water on Saturday. I dove under the boat with a pair of goggles and verified that the paddle wheel (starboard side, rear) was spinning freely (are there two paddle wheels?). I also checked all the fuses.

The speedometer stayed dead the rest of the weekend until late afternoon Sunday. The digital speedometer (i.e., speedo on the screen) spontaneously started back up followed in about 5-10 minutes by the analog gauge.

From searches (see sample hit below), I see that speedo issues are usually either a damaged paddle wheel or a faulty transducer.

Is either or both of these consistent with the speedo coming back online? Is there any inference as to the digital speedo coming back before the analog dial?

Problem was the transducer. Who knows why the speedo came back but (luckily) it was not working when the dealer checked it. New transducer and works like a charm.

Yes...take a picture and put it with your for sale ad.
