    Z1 Tie Downs

Does someone have a picture of how you are strapping your Z1 down to the trailer with the transom eyes. The dealer I bought it from said the boat was heavy enough that it did not need them and it would rub the gel coat off if I used them. Another dealer told me about the same thing, basically you are in a pretty good bind and will have more to worry about if they ever come into play. There are other threads on this subject but none on a Z1, the platform support is not a option on the Z1 it is a smaller support with no holes in it. I have read that some people have some sort of sock on them to protect the gelcoat. Has that worked for you? I have always strapped my boats down in the past and I do not feel good about trailering and not strapping down the Z1. There is a severe angle on the transom of a Z1 that the strap must accommodate.
    Thanks

Awe man, you jacked my color combo. Good thing I changed my graphics.

Dealer told me the same thing, but I don't chance it. Rather have a little gel coat rubbed then my boat in the road or my bed. Think if you rear ended someone. I added electrical tape around the part that rubs and its not too bad.

I use micro fiber towels in-between the straps and the boat on our 24V. works great.

Here's a pic of my RZ (disregard all the ropes on the cover...I don't use them). Your trailer looks like a Boatmate (like mine). My straps are attached to the trailer and work great. Just something to consider.

No offence to those that personally don't see a need to use tie-downs, but IMO, its irresponsible for a dealer to say they are not needed.

Mostly DeSmet, but we do go to Tongue River and Alcova time to time.

                  Where do you go?

Guapo, The Z1 tiedowns eyeholes are much higher on the transom then the RZ. Our Z1 straps will be against the stern for at least 1 foot or more.

lwndr - Sweet boat! Post some pics when yo get the stern strap thing worked out or I will post mine when I get my straps.

I wish the Z1 eyeholes were as low as the RZ's.

I plan on adding straps to my Z1 for those long trips across Texas. I planned on using a type of bath towel under the strap where the strap would be against the boat. We have done this with many otehr boats in the past and it works just fine.

I have just seen way to many bad things in my years of boating when not using straps. I saw a 26' or 28' Chris Craft bouncing off of the trailer going down the highway and when we told our friend about it he got straps and it solved that problem. I would hate to have my boat bouncing up and down on the trailer going down the highway.

You can always purchase more eyelets and drill a whole them under the water line and the swim platform....

This was discussed before and the poster was flamed for saying it, but here goes. I use the same type tie down shown in the picture but attach to the swim platform supports. I didn't want to chafe the transom gel coat.

The purpose of Tie downs is to make the boat and trailer travel together as a single unit. In my opinion the transom swim platform brackets have more then enough strength to allow this to happen. I also have an additional tie down from the trailer to the bow eye.
