Has anyone hydrofoiled or wakeboarded behind a tige Z1??? Like to hear your thoughts on the wake ( without balast ). Ive looked all over the tige websites and it appears they think that tige Z1's are only used by wakesurfers and wont tell you anything other then its a nice wake for surfing.

IMO, the Z1 does have one of the best out-of-the-box surf wakes.
Like any other towboat, they may require added ballast to suite your skill level and or expectation. If you have the opportunity to get one with ballast v's without, get the ballast.
if not, no big deal, a custom ballast system is easy to install afterwords.
Wake preference is so different, the best advice is to get a tow behind one with and with out the ballast filled if possible. This way you can draw you own conclusion. They do like nose weight big time though.
I have a pick of an 08 Z1 wake, but cant remember if we had the ballast filled. I dont think we did because I wanted to surf without ballast before adding any. I will see if I can dig up the pic and re-post.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Yep, that's the pic i'm hunting. It's of my son who is 6', behind the boat @ 70' and 22mph. After he was done, I surfed with no ballast. I was just commenting in general about wake preference.

Thanks chpthril...that is what I was looking for. What are your impressions of the wake for boarding or foiling? Also curious about the handling of the Z1...I have a Ski Nautique and was thinking about getting the Z1. One of the things i really like about my Nautique is it turns on a dime. Some the the big V-drives ive driven feel like slugs. Does the Z1 handle well? From what Ive read they say it has pretty sporty handling, so just wondering if a real owner could confirm that?

The Z1 does have a pretty nice wake for boarding. I had one for the summer of 08. We usually rode with factory ballast and a 600 lbs sac in the walk way. It does like weight towards the front without that you cant get the taps any over abot 3-4. The boat will want to porpose some at higher speeds if the taps is anywhere away from 1-2.
I do not know about foiling as I have only tried it once. I will say for wakeboarding it is a soft wake in my opinion. Your nautique will have a much firmer wake. Comparing it to a ski nautique the wake will be bigger without any ballast. I did load my boat up with about 1000-1200 over factory plus a 4-5 people a few times and it is a nice wake, not too wide, just in my opinion it was not very firm.
The boat will handle well and the taps makes it pretty versitle. I have some pictures if you would like to see in an email let me know.WAKE ZONE

Yes please send pics! Pics of boat or wake or both My email: paul.queen@yahoo.com I pretty much only hydrofoil now ( skyski ), but the same principles apply...bigger wake = bigger air, and if the wake is good for wakeboarding its probably good for hydrofoiling too. On my lake ballast is illegal so I would be running it without ballast or with very little.

I am picking up a 08 Z1 next friday, it is brand new 0 hrs.w/ factory ballast. I am making the move from I/O basically just for surfing. How bad is the porposing issue I have been reading about? Chpthril, it has the stock power premium system what price am I looking at to add tower speakers? Hope I made the right call on this or Mama is going to have one over on me for quite awhile. she was happy with the Crownline....."Failing to prepare is preparing to fail" John Wooden- Rest in Peace

Highrock has more wheel-time in the Z1 then me, but the only time I noticed the porpoising was at 30+. Adding a bit of weight in the front ballast settled it down.
Tower speakers: How much you wanna spend? J/K, send me a PM (private message) on what you are looking for and what kind of budget you have in mind.

I just got an 09 Z1 in October. I am also coming from an 18' I/O. I have only had the boat in the water 4 times and no pics of wake. It has the 343 PCM, factory ballast system and Z Tower. The handling is ridiculous at speed, like a ferrari compared to my I/O, a lot of power also. At docking speed, that is a different story. Docking is a little more challenging. The wife just got me a CWB Surfboard for Christmas, so I haven't tried it yet. The boardin wake seemed good, but only compared to my I/O and a few direct drives, we are still learning how to set the boat up, drive it, etc. I had the 600lbs ballast full and only 4 people. I may load it up this summer with more ballast. I saved a huge sac from my I/O, but I may need a new pump for it.Last edited by Dave S; 02-22-2010, 12:54 AM.Friends don't let friends POWERTURN
