    2001 21V......TAPS and dash issue...HELP!!

This is a two part issue for me. FIRST I'd love to know if Tige is going to be able to help owners of aging 21v's out with replacement dash pieces. Mine came stock with white carbon fiber that has turned to PEE GREEN carbon fiber over the years from sun bleaching. I looked into this last year and was given the name of a company that said they didn't make these pieces for this boat. Atlantic Marine Products out of VA made them but are not in business now. I took my dash apart to have it covered in vinyl because I've spent close to 5k on my interior and seats and the green dash had to go. My Tige dealer told me no such animal was available as a part to replace! So now it looks better color-wise but you can see the cracks on the edges at the screw holes, so I'm still not happy with it at all. LOVE my boat....hate my dash. It got embarrassing when people would compliment my new seats and then ask "what happened to your dash?"
SECOND..Now I also have something going on with my TAPS and I'm sure it relates to my re-assembly work. If you've never taken the gauges out DON'T unless you have to! The TAPS does not work at all now and I'm pretty sure I have all the wires on back correct....two greens on bottom, purple and blacks left and right, and the light wire. It goes all the way over to 7 when the key is switched on but the plate never moves. The tachometer was also acting a little funny but everything else seems to work OK. Any ideas as to what I may have done wrong??? Grounding??

Mine did not work at the beginning of the season and I had the wires from the switch on the throttle unplugged. Forgot to plug them back in when doing the reassembly. Just a simple oversight on my part. Something to check. Follow the wires from the back of the throttle handle to where they plug in.

Do you have pics of your dash? Someone can make you something out of plastic. I have a pretty large and sophisticated shop and can make almost anything but I'd like to see what you are talking about.

I have some pics of the dash from a 99 21v. If you will PM me your email address I will forward them to you.

        Thanks!

Let me know if you find any replacement panels for your dash, I am looking for some as well.

As far as your TAPS goes, when you turn the key on the gauge should go to the position that the plate is at (if it reads 7, then it is all the way up or down, I forget). With the key on then see if the plate and gauge move. I would guess it is something with your TAPS switch, possibly unhooked or mabye a bad fuse (if there is one) or a breaker that is blown or unhooked (if it goes through one). That is where I would start.

I do have a "mystery" wire hanging in that area but can't figure out where it should be. The right side rubber button switches maybe? ACC,12V, Blower, etc??

Same as mine and you say yours is turning green? If I had to do this again, I know there are shops out there that could do the same with plexiglass with the paint behind it. It should be flexible enough to hug the curves. Too bad the original company cannot make more because all of us with these boats will all be needing them before it is all over. What is the switch over the throttle? As far as the wire goes, is there anything else not working. I have several "spare" wires from other previous radio installs and probably from options not installed. Should have a three wire group coming out of the rear of the throttle. Trace that and make sure all three are plugged in.

So was the problem ever diagnosed? I'm having the same issue. I installed perfectPass GPS and now no TAPS.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

two suggestions for the dash insert:

                    1. Fill the cracks with some type of filler. Epoxy and cloth the sections where the screws go through on the back side and any other places that do not contact the gauge bracket. sand and fill the fronts imperfections. Paint or get a vinyl wrap for it. Could even get white carbon look.

                    2. Find a cabinet shop that has a 3 axis router and an employee who can draft you a flat part in cad. Find a good sheet plastic at least 3/16 thick that can handle the heat and has uv protection. It would be flexible and strong enough for your application. Of course no recesses for the gauges and breakers but you could always go thicker and long radius the edges.

                    My TAPS goes to eleven!
