    Shaft Alarm

I have an 06 24v and this weekend while towing a surfer my light on the dash and the alarm went off, kicked the boat out of gear and would not go back into gear until I shut the boat off and restarted it. This happened several times over the weekend but not consistently. Anyone ever have this issue? What the???

I'd start by checking your fluid levels. Also, when was the last time you changed your impeller?

Thanks for your reply. All fluid levels look good. Haven't ever changed the impeller. We only use the boat about 6 weekends a year so I can't imagine it needs changing already. Tell me if I'm mistaken but that light on the dash and the alarm is for the shaft and go off if there is not enough lubrication/water running to cool the shaft, correct? Does the impeller supply that cooling water to the shaft?

Your impeller will last 2 years max, whether you use it or not. It's made of rubber and dries out. It would actually last longer with more use.

The light on the dash is for the V-Drive fluid level and it's on when there's not enough fluid in the V-drive. It has nothing to do with the shaft.

Your impeller needs to be changed...that's probably what the alarm is telling you when it goes into limp mode. Check your temp gauge. My guess is that it's hot (over 175).

Makes sense. The funny thing is that it only goes off during slow speed driving when pulling a surfer at 11mph, or just idling in gear. I can't get it to do it when I'm cruising at speeds above that. Is that because more water is being 'forced' past the impeller at higher speeds??

That's actually happened to me before. I sucked up some debris into my impeller and it started alarming as we were going slow. Once I got it up to speed, it went off because the raw water intake is a scoop designed to force water up there. The lake was cold end though where it seemed to be ok, but the next time out I got an alarm just after I started it up.

You need to change the impeller every 2 years.

                    Alarm/Idle speed

Yo Rendawg- Did you get this ussue resolved? My '06 22ve is doing the same thing but it does it every time i go out. If I get it into drive and get to cruising there is no problem but as soon as I drop it back into neutral that super loud alarm goes off and it is restricted to idle speed. I know it's no the impeller because my temperature and oil pressure is good. Curious to see what you found out.

                    Thanks

I change my impeller each and every season. I also carry a spare on board.

Will save you a lot of potential problems and keep you boating.

Do you have the factory EIDB dual battery setup? Have you double checked the oil level?
