    gas guage

my 2005 tige 24v seems to always be full any idea what i can do to unstick my gas guage

Probably needs a new sending unit in the tank. You could try taking it out and seeing if the float is stuck.

You can test it with an analog ohm meter. The needle should not be erratic when moving the sending unit slowly.

Had the same problem on my 03 21i. Had to tweak the rod a little bit. Took a few times to get it right.

Sending unit, just like a car, is located in the tank, which is located under the false floor. Trying to find a pic.

I have the same problem with my 05 24V. Ive always been told that its an "Inheirant problem" with that year, due to the depth of the gas tank being so shallow. I don't really buy into that excuse, but have never really pursued it further. I too would love a gas gauge that works. I would love for the "Doc" to chime in and enlighten us.

Ok, there's been quite a bit of discussion with this over the years. What happens is that the manufacturer purchases the tanks with the senders built into them. What happens is that rod gets dislodged during shipment (when the tank is empty) and then either doesn't work or works inaccurately. It's less likely to happen with gas in the tank because there's more resistance when that thing is flopping around in there. As River Runner already indicated, you can tweak it a bit and it should work. Alternatively, you can try replacing it. There's not a lot of current running through the sender (for obvious reasons), so it's also super sensitive to ground related issues.

It seems Tige had a bad batch of gas tanks for a while. Mine always worked from day 1 and, talking to my dealer, they said they either work from the start or they don't. Once they work, they continue to work reliably. The gauges are never super accurate because of the flat nature of the tank and the fact that you constantly changing the attitude of the boat with TAPS.

Yep, my 24V is worthless too. It's either full or empty.

This is why a lot of use have put in Fuel Flow gages and transducers on our boats.

Sorry I am late to the party here way late. This happened to my 2005 24V. First it is not your sending gage. Nor is the picture posted the correct one. It is your fuel gage that needs to be replaced. I first replaced the sending unit. wrong thing to do. Then I replaced the gage. I took the old one apart to see what went wrong. The gage when completely full bounces and jams to one side (full). The only way to fix it is to break the lens of the front to the gage then you have a crappy looking and exposed gage. Or replace it with a new one. Then you adjust the gage readings by using the two adjustment on top of the sending unit at top of the fuel tank so your gage does not peg to the 100% full position on the gage when the tank is full. Problem fixed.

Here is the correct sending unit you cut it off to be the length you need it to be. It fits a 12" to 6" deep tank like our boats. here is a link to the web site with all the diffrent sizes.

I finally figured out my problem. My sending unit is (was) like the one SPBFAN has posted above. Inside the tube is an inner tube that is supposed to float up/down with the fuel level. Mine was completly stuck. I replaced it with a "Universal" float from West Marine, cut to size, and it works fine!! I'm so stoked!! The toughest part was just removing the back seat, and lift the floor.
                          Oh... I have an '05 24V.

Do we need 2 Wire or 3 Wire?

This project sounds worth doing since my guage is full 90% of the time, then it jumps to 1/2 for about 30 minutes ,then we find the tank very empty...

You don't need a new sending unit you just need to calibrate the one you have. Either empty the tank or completly fill it. Then use the two screws on the top of the sending unit. One says Full the other says Empty. Adjust the guage to the correct setting. Then when the tank gets to the oposite of what you had it at when you adjusted either the full or empty side adust the other one. My boat is right on. We have learned and I have the guage set so that it reads empty at 1/4 of a tank this way I know when it hits empty to get off the water ASAP I truly only have 1/4 of a tank left at that point.
