Correct, but supposedly the launch ramp will be reopened. It is still super shallow there and I would probably just do Echo since it is 20 miles by car "closer" for your Northerners.

Close and cheap, but the not a 4 star hotel . Echo Bay is about an hour from Sunset Station and the Fiesta if you want to head back into town. I personally think that sitting around the campfire at night with all you new people telling stories is a lot more fun then tying the boat up, driving an hour, going to sleep, driving another hour, but that is just me that doesn't have a family to worry about.

In terms of beaches, I don't know about the one from last year, but when heading North from Echo Bay about 5 minutes before Overton is a great sandy beach on right. I'll try to get some GPS coordinates of it because the Yahoo, Google maps are way off because of the lake level.

That is good to hear that they do plan on reopening it at Overton, but it seems that it will be so shallow at that end of the lake, I would be hesitant to go there.

I think you mean the beach located on the west side of the Overton arm between Overton and Echo? We wanted to go there last year, but the lake level was such that there was a large plateau before you reached the beach (It was 2 feet deep about 20 feet from shore). I thought it was perfect, but there were many who did not want to even get their feet wet,(because it was cold) so they found the little beach we went to. This year wading up to your knees should not be a problem. So that might be the best spot, the sand has always been nice there.

Sounds like an expedition is in order to find the spot.
      Be excellent to one another.

I know it is a little early, but when do you get to town? I'm down to go a day early and scope the best spot for all of us.

I will be down the day before as well, so we should be able to find a good beach spot. I will plan on hooking up with you maybe as we get close. For now, I think the only certainty that needs to be established is to meet at the marina at 9 am. Preferably Echo.

But only if you play that theme song from the '70s movie "Convoy"!

So, who's gonna volunteer to be Rubber Duckie?

Hi all. Yes, Overton is still closed. Echo does have one side of the ramp open. They are working on extending it right now. They are also moving the docks out a ways. We hauled the equipment out there. To be honest with ya, the echo motel is kinda old and run down. I put in there a week ago and had my truck way backed in till the water almost came in my rear door. Very shallow. The beach you used last year is still ok. It is still sandy on the west side of the lake between echo and overton. The water is a little dirty (muddy looking) the farther you go to overton. I'm trying to get off work to make it.

Man we need one (actually more like two or three) really wet winters to get our Colorado river lakes back up to decent levels. Powell has been holding its own for the past couple of years, but Mead has really taken a severe hit. Here's to hoping for a lot of snow in the mountains this winter.

I talked to Matt at Boats of Nevada a few days ago, he is in the process of printing out flyers now.

Seems like if he sends them too soon, everyone forgets, if he doesn't give enough notice, then no one can fix their schedules. Since this is just a Saturday type of thing, it would seem that there would not need to be much notice.
