Got the boat out for the first time since I bought it (2004 22i- 5.7 Votec FI)and had a strange problem. I dewinterized it and took it to the river for a quick ride and after 10 mintutes of slow to medium cruise I ran it up to 40mph. After two minutes or so a loud warning buzzer came on. I checked all gauges, oil press, temp 165, volts and all were fine. I opened the engine up and the impeller housing and engine were cool but the oil dipstick read low, add. Will the buzzer sound if I'm low on oil and pressure builds at rpm?. This happened three or four times but when you turn it off you can turn it right back on and the buzzer goes off after a second or two. I'm totally new to inboards and Tiges so any help is appreciated.

Did you check both exhaust manifolds? Sometimes you can lose part of an impeller and get some blockage. In that case, one side will be hot and the other just warm or cold.
When was the last time you changed your impeller?Cursed by a fortune cookie: "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."

Both manifolds were cool enough to put my hand on and the impeller
housing was also cool, but the impeller was kind of chewed up(pieces missing) when I dewinterized so I have another on order(live a long way from a dealer). Would the impeller problem show up on the temp gauge?Last edited by hubdawg; 04-14-2008, 12:10 AM.

Lake Roosevelt is in Washington state on the border of Canada and close to Idaho, over 100 miles long. Can I have the codes checked by an auto mech. or does it have to be a tige dealer(3 1/2 hours away). What all does the alarm sound for? the motor ran great and never skipped a beat. Just had to turn it off and on when the alarm sounded

Sounds like you may have some blockage in your transmission cooler. You may have some lake debri that will clog the flow of water to the transmission cooler. On my boat its on the starboard side, it leads from the raw water intake hose straight to a small can looking container. Just look for the hose that picks up the raw water, follow it to the transmission cooler.
I had the same exact scenario as you and I just unscrewed a hose and found a bunch of debri in the filter of the transmission cooler. Under low RPMs it works fine but high RPMs is where the additional water flow is needed.
But that doesnt explain your normal operating temp??

Found black tiny pieces of rubber from the impeller in those cooling tubes and cleared with a coat hanger. While pulling the cooler apart I noticed the blue wire to the temp sensor(??) on the port side was disconnected. This was one of the items removed for winterization by the previous owner and I reinstalled without hooking up the wire. Sounds like this might be part of the problem due to my pilot error!. I'm putting a new impeller in but the weather has changed back to crap so a test ride might be a while out.

warning buzzer
Hey Hubdawg,
When I bought my 2005 22i, we took it for a test drive too b4 we purchased it, we also had a buzzer come on at around 30-40mph (high RPM), mind you the boat was brand new and didnt have any hrs on the engine, after searching for an hour or so we discovered a wire was off of a sensor too, once we hooked it back up it was fine. Although that was our quick fix, I would definately check your engine for a few other things too, sounds like the impellar pieces might be a problem also, hope this helped....Firemangr82b1
