chpthril - thanks for the feedback. I like your idea of simply replacing one of the deeps with a starting battery to save the big wire costs. However, if I move one of the deeps to the opposite storage area, how big of a conductor do I need to tie the deeps together? There's a chance they may be used to start if the start battery fails.
Also, found this isolator on ebay > any experience with this brand?

Thanks again.

To put either battery on the other side, you will need at least 8' of cable (8' for power, 8' for grnd). For simply tying in a 2nd accessory deepcycle battery in parallel, I used 4ga battery cable which was about 1/2 the cost of 0ga. If you ever have to switch over to the "deep" bank for an emergency start, remember that the original deep, next to the new "starter" battery, is only a couple of feet from the Perko with the factory cables still intacted. No fear of reduced amperage. Keep in mind, with 2 batteries in parallel, they, in a sense, split the load.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

Not to hijack but want to take this one step further, After you have the dual battery setup, where do you run the original accessories in the boat of off, the switch or the accesory battery's. the same for the amp.
This is what my boat setup currently looks like. If I want to add a combiner I can see that from chpthils post. But as to the amps and original accesories. On mine the Bilge Bump is connected to port battery directly for the auto turn on.
All suggestions welcome as I want to do this all at once since the boat is already taken apart. In my drawing I am assuming after that the circuit breaker is for the accessories as it is a smaller cable as the assumtion off the battery lug is for the starter as it is 0 guage.Attached FilesLast edited by xpjim1; 03-02-2008, 09:07 PM.Let it be!!!

When you are ready to add a Combiner/Isolator, then move all the accessories, stereo, etc, to the "house" battery, and leave the engine system on the "starter" battery.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More
