    How bout this idea !

not long ago when wandering around a marine store, we came across an approx' 6" round deckplate with a clear plastic 4" inch center that is O-ringed and screws out for access. I installed it behind the engine cover directly above the prop shaft stuffing box. Since our boat is out of the water a lot and i always wonder if the stuffing box might be leaking profusely ( which it once did at launch time) now i can just walk to the back and take a look after we are in the water. It might also be a good indicator of other leaks since the only way to see the bilge is to lift the engine cover every time. I know the auto bilge pump takes care of all that but an easy way to view the bilge is nice. Since my son borrowed our camera I cant take a pic of the installation but heres the web site to the company that made it. By the way, cutting the hole requires a serious hole saw since Tige makes such an incredibly strong boat ( we counted 11 plys of laminate in the floor board).

What type of boat do you have?

we have a 1995 Tige 2002 but i imagine that it will work for any direct drive boat. The part # of the one we bought from Beckson is DP40-W-C. It is white with a clear plastic center that allows you to look in the bilge and more specifically at the stuffing box. they come in other colors too.
