Was wondering if anybody has ever surfed a older model carborated tige? I have a 97 pre 2150 and was wondering if I could surf it? Didn't know since the engine was not fuel injected. Thanks for your help

I can't say I've ever heard of that being an issue. I surf mine every time I go out but, it is injected. Same hull though.

Welcome to the site. Post up some pics of your boat. It's sort of customary around here. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Nickypoo's got the nice set for these older boats, but some good old sacs or some good human weight works well. Only one thing to watch if you ride normal make sure to do it with a full tank of gas. At around a half tank the pick up tube in the tank will suck air fully listed to the rub rail. Now if you ride goofy there is no problem, course I dont. For mine Ive been running 200# under the back seat, 2-350# sacs one stacked on top of the other on the side of the motor as far back as I can get them the one sits part way on the seat. Then about 200# in the bow. Plus about 3-4 200#+ guys and all the gear. Throws out a pretty nice wave for an older boat. The driver needs to take turns slow and watch the bow when picking up rider if not you will be running the bilge pump.

Don't be too obsessed with getting the boat to list. What I have found is that while just learning to surf that boat yes, listing it does make a big difference. This last season however, with my new ballast setup, I ran both sides full (~900#) plus another 300# or so in the bow walk way. I would then sit my passengers on whatever side I was surfing. It was very easy to surf and much faster. I could really make it tall if I concentrated all my ballast in the back corner but, the boat didn't like it, crew didn't like it and the wave was really tall but short in length. With new setup, its easier on everybody, easier on the boat and more fun to surf. It dropped the height of the wave down but it is way longer and much cleaner. I was also able to bump my speed up another .5mph.
As always, a fast board really goes a long way in making surfing fun. A crappy board equates to one big struggle just trying to keep up with the boat. You'll wonder what you're doing wrong. Nothing. You just have a crappy board. Speed is king. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I'll have to give that at try, last year was my first year to really try surfing. It would be a lot easier to have the ballast ballanced out and just move a few guys around. Plus like you said the boat would like it a lot more. Your right wave was tall but short the way I had it set up. Thinking this spring going to tinker around with a surf gate see if it does anything. Saw an older DD Bu that a guy put one on. Made a big change on his, so has me wondering what it would do on our hulls. Plus I like to tinker around with new stuff.

I didnt have a Tige, butI had a 92 Sanger thaw as dd and carb'd. I added a 1500# fat sac to the rear, upgraded the 3 blade to a 4 blade (don't recall the #) and it did quite well for surfing. As stated, we moved people around to create a good wake and Nickypoo stated it- speed was key. With that boat we stayed right around 12-13 mph and it made a nice smooth wave.
