Perfect Pass Paddle Wheel

I just got the go ahead for my Perfect Pass system, I'm going to install it myself, before I go drilling holes in the Hull I naturally want to know that where I'm drilling is the right place.

Does anyone have any photo's or diagrams of where there paddle wheel is located, I'm looking for placement on a 2004/5 Switch 20i so hopefully someone has already got a installation that they could send some photos of etc.

I hope someone can help me.

I have a question. My boat came with the paddle wheel that mounts to the transom. Comes with the air temp/ water temp/ depth transducer as well. How do I change this, to still get the air/ water temp, but change the speedo pick-up to the "through-hull" so PP will work correctly? (I don't see why I need to change it anyway. A paddle wheel speedo is a paddle wheel speedo)

If I have to change over, then I will be doing the install myself as well. I agree pics would be nice.

You should call perfect pass. I think the factory installed paddle wheel will work. I installed perfect pass last year & remember reading something about this in the instructions.
My friends 04 switch i has a factory paddle wheel.

I might try it of the factory paddle wheel before I go drilling holes. I didn't realise that it would be compatible with the factory one.

Would still like to see any pics of a good working perfect pass set up on a 20i though.

I have found that wakesurfing speeds the transom mounted paddle wheel doesn't give very good speed readings so will probably fit the through hull one once I'm dead sure on where exactly to fit it.

I would not recommend using the factory paddle wheel because it will not keep the speed when going into the truns. it must have a constance water supply going over the wheel and in the tight turns it can loose that water supply. The best rule of thimb would be to install the PP paddle wheel on the opposite side of the High speed water pickup used to get the water to the engine. This will be the best location and will avoid any issues with the trailer and such. Take a measurement from the keel to the water pickup and then from the transom to the water pickup and place that measurement on the other side and you should have no problems. For 06 model year we are using the through mounted paddle wheel on all boats and this would work.

Thanks for the explanation. Is there a way to continue to get the transducer info from the old system, and then get speed data from the new paddle-wheel? I haven't looked at it very closely inside the boat, but coming out of the trasducer is one cable. I dont' konw if it's actually many cables held together with shrink rap, or if it is one cable hadling multiple data paths. I like having water temp/ air temp/ and water depth. They come in handy.

Why not use both?

Install the new paddlewheel for the perfect pass, and leave the old for the other items you mentioned. Are you removing your speedometer from your boat and replacing it with the perfect pass gage?

On my boat I am replacing my speedometer and installing the perfect pass gage in that location. I am going to leave the old pick up on the transom (I don not see how it can hurt). My depth gage has a separate transducer that is mounted by my V-Drive in the hull.
The perfect pass paddlewheel has a temp sensor init.

You will have to leave the gauge installed to receive the information. I would mount the PP on the side of the dash (right side steering wheel) then you will have the best of both worlds.

Seeing how I have a Switch-V, is it ok for me to replace the speedometer gage?
On my boat this is a 5” gage and it only shows speed. Or would recommend the same as above (leaving the Tige gage and adding the Perfect pass in a new location)

Since it is the Switch and does not have the temp part I would remove the the gauge and replace with the PP head unit. That is what you need to do, there is no other place to mount that will function and look good. Let me know if any further questions.

I have a 97 20ci and the sallom wake at 22 off is very bad. Is there any way to fix this issue with a plate of some sort?

I was looking at the back of my speedo yesterday, and there are several wires that come up from my paddle wheel that don't get used. What are the chances that it has the following functions built in air temp/ water temp/ depth transducer? If they are, what gauge do I need to purchase so I can read them? I do not currently have PP on my boat, I've been thinking about adding it.

You will have to look at the paddle wheel itself to see which one it is. I doubt you have a triducer and I really do not recall what the other wires would have been. If the paddle wheel has a molded arrow on top it is just a paddle wheel. The triducer will have a rounded top with white or green text. One (green I think) carries all signals to the gauges by wire. The other carries down the NEMA2000 line. On newer boats after '07 model year, they run on the CAN J1939 bus.

On to the other questions you had.
On PP you may have to run another paddle wheel (triducer I would imagine). Contact PP to find out. If you do need to run another paddle wheel get one with depth and lake temp that operates through PP. I have very little experience with PP so don't quote me on what will work

With the newer NEMA2000 and canbus uses, many cables have extra unused wiring so it can be packaged in numerous kits.
