HUB SLIPPING OR TRANSMISSION?

ok 99 2100i 500hrs.. boat run great but when theres a load in it whatever it is starts to slip because i guess theres to much power going to it... someone told me it is the Hub but i didn't think we had a hub on a direct drive... others tell me its the transmission slipping.. i check the oil in the tranny and its find.. good color no water in it and full.. i took it to the mechanic and i haven't heard anything back yet just trying to get a idea what it could be... anyone have is problem before

Prop cavitation. Your tranny fluid might be a little low but, I'm still gonna say prop. You need to check the fluid on the water. The dip stick on the tranny does not account for the capacity of the tranny cooler. Get everything up to operating temp. Put the boat in gear, then neutral, then reverse, then neutral. Check it immediately. Fill to line. Repeat process and check again.

I have a 98 Pre2002 and my boat does the same thing. But only when I put an extreme strain or really hammer down on the throttle. or if i turn sharp at high speeds....ive been told its the prop captivation thing? but wondering if it might be something else that i could fix/tweek/check to prevent this? Basically i have learned to just not hammer down on the throttle. I can still pull up two boarders at once without having this happen...just my 2

Its the prop aerating which means its unable to grab enough water for the amount of power going to it so it "slips" through the water. I have the same boat and run a 13X13 4 blade and it'll happen in choppy conditions or really hard, fast turns. BTW, there is not capability for the prop hub to "spin" on inboards and v-drives as it's in direct contact with the shaft and the prop does not have a hub to spin.

boat wakes that is what i thought about hubs.. i don't know what size my prop is at I'm work 1000 miles away from home and can't check it right now but I'm having a mechanic check over everything and maybe we can get it to stop doing it.. i like to surf and it does it a lot when I'm 10-11 mph. just doesn't seem right.. so is a 13x13 4 the best prop for it?

maybe you do have something else going on because i pull surf at 10-15mph and ive never had it happen while surfing...

is there any way to stop the prop from aerating? Some reason i think its going to have something to do with the transmission, guess i should be prepared to spend some $$$$... sucks

dgalindo, those transmissions are good to 400hp unless you overheat them so you should be fine. I have nearly 800 hours on the boat and it's only aerated at specific times but while surfing at about 12-14 it's very easy on these older hulls to have it happen with lots of weight in the back and little to none in the front. Have your guy check the prop size as well as visually inspect the blades for cavitation burns which show up as a discoloration near the blade tips. If it's aerating a lot, there will be burns on all blades.

I currently run an ACME 653. It's an 11 1/2 x 13 w/ a .060 cup, 3 blade. I've been surfing at 10.2-10.6 on gps, taps on 4, 2100- 2200 rpm, 4500ft elevation. I'm getting some cavitation while surfing with the new ballast mod. I've yet to install the front set up. That would help quite a bit. However I'm getting a lot when getting a wakeboarder up when both sides are full. It's right around 900# but, its also a very effective 900# being that it is split between both corners. WOT will yield 35.9mph @ 4400rpm.

I'm looking to get something a little different. I'm thinking a 12 x 14, 4 blade.

Will do, ive briefly looked at my prop and didn't see and discoloration at all but I'll look again when I get home.. When we surf I have a 800lb bag on one side with 300 in middle and sometimes I'll put another 300 bag up front and then the people all go to one side... Probably to much weight but I've also had it with barley any weight and it stil does it.. I wish the ballast bag could be built in somewhere so there's more room...

Most of the time it will make that weird noise so I drain the ballast and just use the people cause I don't want to screw up my boat.. If there no way for this problem to stop guess Im going to have to sell it.. It only has 500hrs on it

I get a lot of cavitaion with a lot of weight in the boat, especially for surfing, just have to listen for it an let of throttle. More bow weight or chaning TAPs to drop the bow works very well for me.

You should be able to fix your problems with a phone call to Acme, they will take some data about your boat, where you use it, how much weight and recommend a new prop for you.

It's not quite that simple. I'm gonna do a new prop. Jim at Acme is out this week so it'll have to be next week. I'm gonna do some more set up testing this week so I can give him a few more details.
