What model & year boat do you have?
Maybe this previous thread will help?

I replaced mine with a different packless seal system (PSS) a couple of years ago.

drive shaft seal
Thanks for the advice. The Tige is a 2008 21I. I just looked at my drive shaft and it does not look the same as the pics. It appears that a rubber boot with hose clamps may be covering the seal as that is the only thing between the triangular flange mounted on the hull and the shaft coming out of the engine. Would that be a good place to look?

I have taken a picture of my drive shaft assembly. I assume the seal is under the boot where the red arrow points. I removed the hose clamps near the red arrow and the two set screws on the collar indicated by the black arrows but could not slide the collar up the shaft. Assume that is what is needed to move the boot up and expose the seal. Did not want to force it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Nope it seals up by the other 2 arrows. Where the silver ring meets the grey carbon ring.If you want to adjust it remove the the first set of allens where the 2 black arrows are pointing. Then loosen the second set of allens under the first set you just removed. The silver ring should now slide on the shaft. Ok so now slide the silver ring til it just makes contact with the carbon disc. Then you push the silver ring down 3/4 of an inch down the shaft compressing the bellows. Hold it in place and tighten the allen set screws in the silver ring.
Now the problem is they dont fail that often without something causing them to fail. When you slide the silver ring up look at how the carbon ring all the way around and make sure its symmetrical around the shaft and not oblonged..caused by the shaft being off center.
On a good note you have a direct drive so its easy to do..good luck!
I am not good at the search thing but I posted it up when I redid mine after my strut got bent and wipped mine out.
