Another Met"crap" Failure

I hate reading this kind of threads because I have an 01 with the Met tower too. so far it has held up. Are you guys pulling tubes or something crazy on the tower and thats what causing all these problems?

I have only pulled a tube twice behind my boat, and I use the ski pylon. The only rope that gets hooked up to the tower is for either wakeboarding or wakeskating.

I suggest you take a close look at your tower on a regular basis to insure that yours is not cracking. It's just a matter of time before yours breaks also.

My 1999 is still doing great! I will only pull wakeboarders and kneeboarders from up there. Adult skiers get pulled from the pylon and tubers from the pylon or the back.

It's just a matter of time dude. Towers we're in their infancy of design at that point and nobody was sure how those towers were going to hold up over time. Not very well as it turns out. I'm sure you have seen new towers. There's a reason they don't build towers like the Metcap anymore. The fact that any of them are still in service is nothing short of amazing. Job well done to you Sir for keeping that thing together this long but, how long are you going to let it stay on there? 'Till it breaks? When it does break, how will it break? Just a little crack or will the entire ladder section snap and come crashing down on somebody's head? Nothing makes a bloody mess in your boat like a sharp metal tube hitting someone's head at high velocity. It might even tear the vinyl.

I re-inforced mine. I put some SS tubes over my joints and haven't had any issues since.

The tow point on the new tower is maybe 3 inches higher vs. the stock tower. And yes, the speakers are lower due to mounting them under the tower, instead of on top.

I have an '01 20i with one of these towers... It's really loose and sways fairly easily. I am looking into getting a monster mt2.

Do it, you will not regret it.

Here's the cleat I used to cover up the holes from the stock tower.

That cleat cover looks really good and I also wouldn't mind having some cleats anyways. I may have to do the same thing when I save up some cash.

did you have to take the seats out or just reach in there to tighten the nuts. It is really tight on the passengers side to get to the bolts.

It would have been easier if I did remove the passenger seat, but with me being lazy, I reached in there with an air ratchet and I was able to get the nuts nice and tight.

MET "CRAP"

My MET "CRAP" tower fell apart at the welds also. I have a 2001 TIGE 22i that monster tower MT2 looks good.

Is there any way to get a alpha Z tower from TIGE?

Took my '01 21i out for the median voyage last weekend and I noticed that the tower is mush looser than normal. I grabbed the tower and with little effort, it wiggled like a leaf in the wind. So I proceeded to remove the black pads around the top of the tower, and to my amazement, the tower was sheared off at the mounting point on both sides...

So over the weekend the wife and I mulled over which tower we should get. We settled on the Monster MT2. we opted for the package deal with racks,mirror and tower speakers. We upgraded the tower speakers to Wet Sounds XS650's. I will be installing the tower this weekend. I will post pictures of the finished product.

Several people have asked Tige about retrofitting an Alpha Z tower to their boats, and I believe that the answer has always been "NO".
