Suck gates work on all boats. Get some fat sacs, grab a suck gate and have fun.

Actually, and I hate to contradict Duffy but, I hate shapers on my boat. I messed with them for a few seasons. Got sick of it and tried it without and my wave was way better without it. I haven’t run one since. My ballast setup is way different than any other D-drive I’ve ever seen though.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

My results vary from good to great either way. Depends on ballast setup. You millage may vary.

The PRE2000 was banned from slalom contest when the boat was first introduced because the wake was too small . Going to be tough to get a wave from it.

Trust me, I tried. I found the key is to find other stuff to do behind my boat and surf a buddy’s boat that surfs very well.

All joking aside, my boat hates gates. Every single one I tried had too much effect and the surf side suffered. It didn’t really need help in the first place though. I just jumped on the bandwagon cause it was there. I’m officially off the wagon now. At least for my boat.

got about the same boat as Nickypoo, but not the nice ballast set up he's got. I run the rear ballast, lead, ppl/gear, list the boat and add a shaper. Produces a decent wave for a 98 DD.

I’m sure if I sacked it out, I could push enough water to make use of a shaper. I don’t think I run enough for one at present. My wake isn’t huge by any stretch. It’s pretty small in the modern realm of surf wakes. It has beautiful shape/power though. Some adult size friends definitely helps. It demands list. Even more than weight. And taps. Full 8, all the way up. I’m so tempted to put a couple simple tabs on it just to have better roll control to list it as much as possible. I never could hit on a good gate set up and I’m just not interested in running sacs on the floor. Not interested in lead either. Messes up the slalom wakes. We do too much other stuff to just run an all surf setup all day. I can fill/drain 450+ each side in ~6min and we can switch whenever and ride whatever. The disc has been the hot item lately. It’s a genuine barrel o’ monkeys.

Old Tige d-drives are great tow boats and it would a shame to not enjoy what it’s best at, towing.
