First season as boat owner . . . 1 million questions

Just found this site, wow.

I bought an 04 21i during the off season and am now finally getting the chance to do more than a day trip with it. I know there are a few spare parts I should carry with me now and would welcome any advice from you experts on exactly which parts those would be.

I know I should have a spare prop, but am unsure how to tell what size, pitch and shaft diameter I have.

Congrats, and welcome to the site!

The shaft size is 1-1/8", the prop size and part number should be visible on the nut side of the hub.

make sure you change the impeller and check for any wear on the bilge pump if it has any cracks where the hose connects your in for a long day.

Where are you headed for you trip? I'm located in Corona and do most of our boating at the river.

You need to have a spare impeller on board, prop, plug and tool box.

As far as the tool box goes, other than basic hand tools: prop puller? anything else?

I was just out in Laughlin for a few days and will be back there a few more times before the summer is over, and I have a Havasu trip on the calender as well. I spend most of my time at Castaic and was at Pyramid yesterday.

I would also have a spare belt, and for sure keep a couple of pipe clamps just in case.

dive mask and a sharp knife... if you need to use it then you will need a spare innertube or ski rope...

I've already got the knife, and the experience using it to turn an 80' ski rope into one 75' rope and 20 3" ropes. Also since I have my SCUBA cert, I bought one of those little SpairAir tanks so that if I ever have to cut a rope off the prop again I can do it without having to come up for air 100 times.

I was thinking the SpairAir ideas also. Seems like a good idea but then how often do you tangle the rope in the prop. I haven't done it for the past 3 years. When does those SpairAir tanks expire?

They don't really expire (at least not the one I have) but if I don't "need" it by the end of the year I'll probably play with it and get it filled again. You do have to service them like your regular tanks, but if you get your regular tanks serviced some shops will take care of the spare tank for free.

2 important items for any boat. 1) a marine lube gun to lube your trailer wheel hubs before you drop it in the water(on your pre-launch on the ramp-not at home before you leave). 2) a bottle opener.......
