So, my RZ2 Swim platform pad was peeling up, and I decided to Do the full Seadek installation, except for the walkthru. I did front steps, Swim Deck, rear transom, and the gunwale.
- SeaDek vs Others: The primary reason I chose SeaDek is their large library of existing shapes to fit all Tige Models. Gatorstep required the purchase ($70) of a template kit, where SeaDek could pull from their records for each hull type, by Year. They had several ready to go for the 2011 RZ2 from previous buyers.
- The process - I wrote a note to the main contact number at SeaDek, and within a few days Tina Ackerman (cust service rep) contacted me, and we went back and forth via email. One day, she just called the phone number in my email so we could nail it down... glad she did. You could email her directly and she will get back to you: TinaAckerman@Seadek.com 321-632-4466 Phone.
- They recommend you purchase the Mylar printout ($10+shipping). This is TOTALLY worth it, as what Ifound out was that the pre-existing templates were created from the templates of previous folks, and the shapes and the direction of the grain, and teak direction, may not be right. Pay for the Mylar, tape it to your boat, and be sure to DOUBLE CHECK. Mine was all messed up.
- Tige's are not symmetric. The left/right bow step pads, were significantly different shapes (by like 0.5 inch) on the mylar sheets. But they fit perfect. That said, the left/righ rear transom lockers were also different, but did not fit right as the dude who originally bought them must have been drunk. I fixed them and they came out perfect.
- They no longer will put a TIGE logo on the swim deck pad due to copyright infringement. I tried and tried but they said No, only Tige can do that. Made me sad, but there it is.
- For the Teak, If you run the grain sideways, they can do a a full swim deck pad. If you run it for-aft, like mine, they make you split it (this is a new requirement). Something to do with cracking when it ships. Anyway, mine came out great split with a 3/4 inch gap.
- Old Pad Removal: Watch the Seadek Videos on You Tube. Must Must Must. It takes a lot longer than the video implies. Just deal with it. Lots of Acetone and a razor blade work great... be careful with that razor.
- New installation - Watch the VIDEOS. Do it just like they said. One Gotcha- the pads actually stretch, so don't stretch them while you put it down, it will make the edge uneven where you grab it and are pulling it.
- Gunwale pads. Mine are perfect rectangles 26x3 inches long. However, since it stretches, you can carefully follow the curve of the gunwale, and they will follow the curve exactly... see the photo attached. Had I known I could do that... I would have made them even LONGER... like 32-36 inches. I thought 26 inches was the largest rectangle I could fit on the curving surface... but I was Wrong! It stretches really nicely to follow the curve exactly! Just be careful and take your time... its easy... but one shot is all you get. One stick and stuck for good. No Redo once you stick it.
- All my pads came out perfect for the 2011 RZ2. I attached the drawing from SEADEK for reference (tiny PDF link at bottom of last photo). End Result Looks Great!
