The objective here, as with most of our installations, was to incorporate an
over-the-top stereo system into the boat without impairing daily
functionality. This boat logs real hours, while loaded with people, boards,
drinks, bags, lead, etc. Occupying limited available real estate with stereo
components was out of the question. The obvious solution...hide it.
Of course, burying amps behind seats isn't revolutionary, (something we've
been doing for a while as a theft deterrent), and we wanted the installation
to have an additional level of flair. By modifying the amps with acrylic
windows, interior LED lighting and a brushed finish we were able to achieve
a level of "showiness" that the customer could choose to show at their
discretion. In order to display the amps easily, the seats went through
plastic surgery to allow them to hinge downward. ABS cover panels were
created on each side to finish the look.
We knew going in (using what we learned on the last Wet Sounds boat) that
the subs needed to be on plane with one another to achieve the amount of
bass response desired by the customer. Once again, we kept functionallity in
mind by protecting the subwoofers behind walls with perforated metal grills.
Carry-on items may be stored in the compartment with limited audible effect
or damage to equipment. In addition, roughly three cubic feet of storage was
created above each slot-loaded enclosure.
The system consists of:
(2) Wet Sounds XS-XXXv2 subwoofers in slot-loaded enclosures
(6) Modified Wet Sounds SYN series amplifiers
(6) Wet Sounds Rev10 tower speakers
(12) Wet Sounds XS-650 interior speakers
(1) Wet Sounds WS-420 EQ
(5) Size 24 batteries
(1) Xantrex 60a charger
