Tony the Tige - Do you ever stay at Black Meadow Landing at Havasu? Could have sworn I saw a boat just like yours there last season.

                        Wakeboarding Picture Technique

Photoshop. This image is a composite of several images from a single jump.

That is a series of 8 images layered together. I start the sequence when the boarder is off to the left. Camera on 5FPS, manual exposure, fixed focus, fixed white balance. Hold the shutter button until the boarder finishes the jump. You can follow the boarder by moving the camera horizontal but DO NOT MOVE THE CAMERA VERTICALLY. You can also just point the camera to the rear of the boat and just not move the camera. The panning just provides a wider image that you have do deal with. You now have multiple images with which to work.

Load the images images you need into Photoshop. I process through Lightroom first to color balance the images before loading into Photoshop.

Start with the first image, full size as the base image. Next use free transform to layer the next image over the base image. Set transparency to 50% so that you can align distant landmarks. Once that is done set transparency to 80% or so so you just barely see the base image. Create a layer mask on the top layer. This is done so you can do a non-destructive erase.

Now start erasing parts of the top layer so the base layer shows. You don't have to be precise as you have aligned the landmarks. Erase what you want. If you make a mistake reverse the mask colors and erase again to restore what you need.

Repeat this for the remaining images that you want to stack. You can go back and fine tune the erasing because of the layer mask and being able to "unerase".

Cutting and pasting from each individual image would have been a nightmare because of the fine detail in the water. The effect looked like it was cut and paste. The layering method produces much better and fairly seamless results. Unless you know where to look you cannot tell the transitions between the images.

Having just got back from a week on the houseboat, those pics really hit home. Thanks for sharing. I will try and post a few after I sort through all of them.
