Stereo broke on first trip out.

I took out my new Tige 21I yesterday and the stereo is already giving me problems. I had my local dealer install a 12" sub with an amp, but I don't think the problem is related.

For some reason, the front two speakers work really well and get all kinds of loud, but the other four can barely be heard at all. I checked the fade to make sure the controls were not biased towards the front and they were not.

I am a little upset because people do not spend $40K for a boat to have something like this go wrong the first time they take it out.

Has anyone had this problem before? Any advice would be great. I am going to take the boat back in this weekend and see if they can figure it out.

I think I had the same problem. It was one of the settings besides fade. I forget how I fixed but I had to call Tige to explain it to me.

I think you likely have a setting issue. I have seen the same problem posted on other websites. You might save yourself a trip by posting your problem on Wakeworld.com on the boats and accessories discussion board. There are a number of stereo gurus that are pretty helpful on that site. You'd need to post a lot more information - like the type of stereo, how the amp is setup (does it power the rear speakers too?) etc.

In fact, some people here may be able to help if you can post it here.

If you have the Clarion XMD3 head unit, I might just want to mention that I think the owner's manual is seriously worthless, an embarrassment to Clarion.

i agree with talltigeguy, you should probably try to educate yourself as much as possible. if you have a hot stereo your gonna have problems. it's like having a hot rod, drive it, fix it, drive it, fix it... it never ends. take it to your dealer first, most places get upset if you complain that it does'nt work then they see that you screwed with it. it just makes for alot of finger pointing and no one comes out of it happy. i would educate myself as much as possible so you actually know what they are going to do or did. too many people are too trusting and don't ask the right questions at the right time. most of the time the boat is back out on the water by the time you find out it either wasn't fixed or it still does'nt sound right. and then you (the customer) is freaking out on the poor soul that answeres the phone at the shop.

Thanks for the responses. I would especially would like to thank Tony Fussell at Tige for getting back to me so quickly and showing concern for my problem. Tony noticed my post on this website and sent me an E-mail letting me know that it is a common problem and an easy fix. Today I took my boat in to the dealer that I bought it from to see if they could remedy the stereo problem and the subwoofer problem.

I would also like to say that this is my first boat purchase, and that the Tige team has impressed me with their willingness to fix any problems that I have had. They have consistantly gone out of thier way to make sure that I was happy with the boat. Thanks again for the input.

Good to hear Mike, Tony is a stand up type of guy. Stereos, amps and subs can be a tricky thing to figure out sometimes, well at least for me. I used to have more problems with my stereo system than anything else.

Every boat owner is going to have some sorta radio problem at some time.

Patience, and perserverance is the key.
Seems most problems I've had with anything on my Tige' was non Tige' related.
Just aftermaket stuff they have little control over.
Stereos seem to be a problem on all boat lines. Especially with the new high power stuff.

The radio company sales reps come into the dealer, tell a tale of their product, promise to back it up and the dealer goes with the best he can with pricing in mind.
The dealer ends up being only as good as the Stereo/sound system company supporting them.

So,,, I figure Tige' builds boats, not sound systems,, and WE in turn, all are at the mercy of the Sound system builder.

Does any one know how to fix the speaker problem named above. The two front speakers are louder than the four in the back end of the boat. This system is just a stock system from tige, 04 21I. Does any one have a (out/amp) wiring diagram?? I'm not impressed with my dealers stereo guy. Or do I have to just pay someone, wich you shouldn't have to for a $40K+ boat.

If you have the Clarion XMD3 you might try the following.
My stereo had a similar problem until I did this. I was a little aprehensive at first because I wanted the speakers to work not the SUB. Guess what it did work for the speakers.

Setting the low pass filter
This function allows you to set the low pass filter for sub woofer output.
The factory default setting is lfp 120
1. press and hold the T button for 1 second or longer to switch to the adjustment selection display.
2. press the << or >> button and select SW LPF
3. press the ^ or V button to setting changes as following order
LPF 120 <-> LPF 80 <-> LPF 50 <-> REAR
SET THIS TO REAR.
4. Press the T button to return to the previous mode.

What billspin recommended above is the correct fix for the problem. The way Tige wires their stereo is that the rear speakers are wired in parallel, to provide a 2ohm load to the amp, per channel. This is fed via the rear pre-amp output of the XMD3 receiver, which is why you are getting low output. Actually whatr is happening is the received is lowpassing at 120Hz by default, but the clarion amp is setup to highpass at around 80Hz, which means you lose almost all response from the speakers.

Changing the low pass filter to "REAR" will fix the problem.

Seting the LPF to REAR helped alot. In fact I had already tried tunning it better with the amp. I think I will need to re-adjust the amp again. Thanks for all the response. This discussion board is great. I, most of the time, can solve problems faster than the dealer. That's sad.

I think the dealers' will do their best; it's just that on these discussion boards you're dealing with people that have had these problems and been thru the trials and tribulations of getting the repairs and now have the knowlege to pass down to the rest of us. That's why I like to read all the posts; brown ooze, tight steering both solved/treated on the discussion boards!!
