Hiss through speakers and loud volume

I have the WS420 and the Wetsounds threesome with a Sony deck and Sony RM-X10 remote and 2 Rockford Fosgate P8004 amps. When we got on the water this morning, there was a loud hiss over all the speakers when the volume on the deck was zero and on the WS420 was also turned all the way down. The volume is extremely compared to what it used to be. Nothing has changed since our last trip last weekend when eveyrthing was working fine.

Ck your RCA connections. Thats a good place to start. May have vibrated loose or got hit by a board or something.

Also make sure the gains on the Ws-420 did not get turned up inadvertently.

Does your Taps still work? When my taps brain failed it played wonderful music through my amp.

We have a winner. Found the volume on the 420 at over 50%. Turned it down and the volume on the head unit up qnd all is back to normal. Thanks guys for the suggestions.

You have what is called "gain hiss" This is caused from improperly set gains. Gains on the amps up too high. When running a high voltage line driver like the 420. You will want to re set the gains on the amps. I wrote a set up guide on our site. On the 420 page called settings & installation. Take a look at this and follow the guide to re tune the system.

You want to be able to turn your 420 up to almost all the way and the radio to about 85% of max and that should be your max volume level. If you can only turn the 420 to half way. It sounds like you have the gains on the amps up too high.

Best thing to do is write down where they are now just in case. So you can always go back to this point. But if you follow the set up. You will be able to get a louder and cleaner set up

Thanks Tim. I will follow the guidelines for the 420. Tige Preformance Boats (now gone) installed the 420 last summer to my existing system. They adjusted everything then but I believe they may have missed your website help. The sound is incredible at 50% but it sounds like I will need to turn down the gain on the amps a little to allow th 420 to be cranked up. I can always count on you guys to make it right. TD

Good info, I have the same hiss and haven't checked out my settings yet. I had a local audio shop set mine up so I thought they set it up correctly.

Sometimes, there will always be a tiny hiss. Just the nature of a high powered system in a boat. Boats are very hard to get noise free as there is no chassis ground like in a car!
